Who else is frustrated by threads that are littered with typos? (I mean EVERY post in the thread)

Where something is in one post, and contradicted five posts later?

Are you reading your own work guys????

HONESTLY!!!!

At least go back and edit the problems out of your posts!

And yes....feel free to rant about anything.....

I use a built in spell checker and visit dictionary online all the time, but I know my sentence structure is poor.

Sentence structure is not as big of a thing to me.
Its saying "fo" instead of "of" and "rully" instead of "really"

And saying a character has shorts on in one post, and five posts later they're pants. (in the same scene with no costume changes.)

I just wonder why all these things exist?
If I post something online, I want it to be "clean" work. Work that is readable. Work that I can be "proud" of.

OR when their character they try to create is so obsurd..

i.e. character age is 25 and they've been in the military for 12 years...oy vey!!!

I reply via phone sometimes in the lounge, and the wonderous "Swype" spelling decides to create words for me. As for threads, the stray too-fast "fo" for "of" or misplaced letters doesn't bother me if it's not a continuous thing. If EVERY post is full of errors, I end up losing interest. Decifering poorly typed posts is frustrating.

That, continuity fails, and minimalistic replies.... Lily goes SheHulk on her computer.
If I write a 6 paragraph or more post, a 4 sentence reply is not cool.
Worse still is 3 WORDS.
REALLY?!
GTFO.

GTFOs

For me, it would simply be an issue of loosing interest -same as Lilly- because it's been my experience that the depth I seek in a writer lies in direct proportion to the words they use and the care they take.

However, acknowledging that in casual text I type quickly and fingers often get confused, I cant come down too hard on others; I'm as guilty of laziness at times.

I think the lack of capitalization and punctuation bothers me more than spelling. I have spell-checker and all that, because I know despite my one-time English major roots spelling was never my strong suit, but there are times my fingers get a little ahead of my brain and I end up typing something that is a word, just not the word I meant.

I can't think of a good example now, but if I was talking about a horses' mane, for example, there's a good chance I'd be posting about a horses' many and not even catch it. My fingers just like to type the words they usually type, not the ones they don't, I guess.

But people that type like they talk but the fuck out of me. Everybody, not errbody. Stabstabstab.

Why not, the poor fella has a military mind, so was recruited young, give him a break :D

Haha... I don't even use text-speak in my texts. Proper capitalization and punctuation there too. But I'm weird about things like that. It bugs me when songs in my iTunes aren't capitalized right, so...

I think the op had it set up for spelling and typing error ranting - but, I'll hijack with a rant that I never see you anymore!

You never see me because you are never here.

I shall not hijack with my own rant then.
Well, rants, really.
I've got a bunch at the moment.
Some related, some not.

I'll rant, but on something else:

I have trouble making those long involved posts that I so want to make.

Mostly because I don't want to do something that would "over-ride" what the other person would do.

But I so fucking hate making a post small, and not pushing things, because of this! AAARRGGGHHHHH.

I take to take fucking chances.

Yes.

Rant off.

First, No one walks on water.

We all make mistakes, lord do I ever.. le sigh.
But Jumped Jesus and a side car full of Jimmies! Use Spell Checker when you can mother fucker!
Consult both Google which spell checks as you type in searches and online Dictionaries.

Learn to love words, use them, expand upon them. I am not perfect, but I am trying hard.

This has been your Angry Halfling rant.

For me its the whatever...we all make mistakes answer. I'm alot more tolerant of that sort of thing in my cowriter's posts but not tolerant at all of my own. I'm not saying that mistakes don't slip past me, because they do:eek: And lord knows I've been dragged over the coals before for not reading my cowriter's posts closely enough. I speed read alot so details get skipped over on me.

What I can't abide is not giving as much as my cowriter is giving it. I did that once before and it was to my eternal regret.

It can be generally acceptable to PM your co-writer and let them know what you would like to do in a post, if you feel it might infringe upon them controlling their own character. Who knows, they may even have ideas that help move the thread along and still give them the chance to make their own actions.

I'm starting to do this.

Danka.

Also, you want to remember that it is a story you are making together. If they only want to have one thing happen, they should write it themselves.

YES!! Or, if you and that writer already have that chemistry, then they know the limits of what they can with your character! With this being said, I've only found 4 in my time here on Lit with the chemistry to do this...nodsnodsnods But yet, PMs never hurt...it's better than getting a PM saying "WHY THE FUCK DID YOU DO THIS WITH MY CHARACTER?!" or "WTF WERE YOU THINKING?!"

:D
