Reading the article or listening to the audio segment within that same article, it's not the only cause, nor is it at all 100%. But, Michael Douglas has gone on record saying that is what caused his cancer and it seems doctors are agreeing it is very possible, because of how human papillomavirus travels from person to person.

"...without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV which actually comes about from cunnilingus," Douglas said.

Just something for information and not anything else. But, it does give you something to think about.

I seem to be posting this in various places but why stop now.

If you have children who aren't sexually active yet, PLEASE get them vaccinated!

Seriously. I get so frustrated with other Christians. "I don't need to get my child vaccinated, they're going to be sexually abstinent until they marry someone else who was sexually abstinent". Morons. First off, how exactly do they plan to enforce that? Second, let's say that everything goes how they planned, and their children do remain 'pure', etc, and years down the road the unimaginable happens and someone is raped, and the rapist gives them hpv. Like the trauma of rape isn't bad enough, now your child is at high chance of cancer because of a rape. What if years down the road, they've dealt with the rape, etc, and they get cancer and have to deal with this trauma again, as they die from what amounts to be a rape? Arg!

My kids pediatrician says she wants me to hang around the office to handle the other Christian mom's she talks to. lol

Absolutely get vaccinated, etc. And it's great that the message is getting out and that he's being open.

But "caused by cunnilingus? Come the fuck on.

Exactly how do all these vaginas get HPV? There aren't that many lesbian vectors. We're not getting it off toilet seats and giving it to the menfolk. We're not spontaneously sprouting HPV of our own accord.

Let's all take some responsibility on this one. Although a killer pussy meme might not be the worst ever.

Oops!

Well, it seems there is a clarification in Douglas' statement. I guess he's saying he was misquoted.

The link is here...

Cancer and throat cancer! On average ten cigarettes spread over the whole of your life are probably more likely to cause throat cancer than pleasing your partner with cunnilingus or a blow job ten thousand times over (about once a day, every day until your silver anniversary). Also you can never be absolutely sure what caused a cancer; it's all about probability. Any type of cancer can arise spontaneously. It's just that, as an example, exceptionally rare spontaneous lung cancers become relatively commonplace in those that have smoked tobacco or tobacco related products for any length of time.

I'd love to know where you are getting your information.

The vaccine is only recommended for young girls, us older women are just screwed.
All these vaginas are getting HPV because men and women can be carriers/spreaders with no symptoms. It can also be spread by skin contact so condoms aren't always effective.

I know, it's the Dr. Oz show but the CDC pages were a lot of medical speak. I think they are just scratching the surface of HPV cancers. It's scarier than you think.
Here's a CDC page with some more stats

I've always known he was a pussy hound but I didn't know he was such a giver.

Thank goodness it's not due to his drinking and smoking. LOL

No, I know this. So if a ton of us are carriers and only the next gen will be innoculated, it's basically abstain or take those vegas odds. And yes, it blows, it blows massively.

The likelihood that the same guys exposed via oral sex were the vector in the first place makes me wonder about the "woman dirty" meme.

They're actually having boys vaccinated now, too. At least my pediatrician is.

Frankly put, some things are pleasurable enough to be worth dying for.

It's all about calculated risk. As an occasional cigar and pipe smoker who does not inhale, I am 2-3 times more likely to die of oral cancer and very slightly at higher risk of lung cancer. Compare that to a pack a smoker who has 50 times more risk of cancer death, I will keep more oral fixation and keep my fetish of adoring cunninglingus and encouraging my subs to squirt into my mouth to swallow their juices.

There's the rub. I think most people thought the cause was from smoking and/or maybe made worse by drinking, but he said his particular cancer was caused by the the HPV.

Then, after the news broke, his publicist came out and changed the story saying he didn't say his cancer was caused by cunnilingus (even though they have him on tape saying exactly that). He's backtracking a little bit with this big admission. It could be he didn't expect his statement to have such an impact. Maybe his wife is bothered by hearing about his past, too. Whatever the reason, he's doing a bit of a side step on it.

There's been a lot of debate about the effectiveness of these inoculations. There hasn't been long term testing.
What sucks is they recommend a test for HPV at each pap over age 30 but there's nothing you can do about it if you have it but wait.
I have one friend who will never have kids due to cervical cancer and another who's loyal husband brought her home a case of genital warts. Nice.

Really? That's pretty cool. I didn't realize they were doing that now.

I never got the vaccine, and I'm too old for it now. I was near the upper end of the age limit when it first came out, and it didn't become an actual "thing" until I was too old.

Yeah. I took one of my heart kids in for a well child visit. He's 16, and they told me that now they're giving them to boys. I said "I thought they were only giving them to girls?" and his doctor said "We were, but then someone said, 'wouldn't it be better to get rid of it all together?' and all the peditricians said 'oh, yeah!' "

The 16 year old, on the other hand, was not thrilled. He doesn't like shots, and the hpv shot BURNS.

I think I live in a cave. Not really, but I didn't even know they had a vaccine for HPV. May be because I don't have health insurance so I'm not in the loop. (But I do go to the I'll doctor very year for a check-up even if I have to pay $250 out of pocket cause it's worth it!). Anyway, what is the age limit? I'm in my early thirties, thirty-one to be exact, and I was just curious if I, too, was screwed. In any case, if I am, I'm in agreement with a few others on here that sex is worth the risk - when taken wisely, if possible, of course. ;)

I think it's like 25 or 26. I'm 29 and am too old for it.

HPV can also lead to colorectal cancer. It was the cause of my cervical cancer a few years ago and my gyno made me aware I'm at much higher risk for oral and rectal cancer now. Got my daughter vaccinated last month and hopefully they will vaccinate my son also. They haven't offered but if some offices are doing it I'm gonna ask about having him vaccinated.

I would. Consider it a favor you're doing for him and for his future mate.

That's girls AND boys for the vaccinations, just for the record. Which is wonderful because in a mostly-het society, that covers the full path of transmission.

Had to add: Yes, we adults ARE screwed, it's already too late, in terms of whether we have it or not. BUT I'm also concerned about my kids. Bless 'em, they're late bloomers, my daughter is covered and my son soon will be. This CAN be stopped, which is incredibly cool. I do not understand the people who say "oh, not my child, s/he will be virtuous." Goodie for them, but are you absolutely positive about their future partners?

HPV vaccination is the same for boys and girls, simply it's too expensive to offer it to everybody and females have more types of cancer that HPV can lead to so the girls got recommended/given (depending on where you are) the vaccine. In Australia we gave it free to all consented 15 year old girls in school for a few years, about 6ish years ago (I'm covered!), until someone in government decided the money would be better spent elsewhere.

Just for interest's sake, HPV related oral cancer has a much much better prognosis than cancer caused by smoking - not just because the viral aspect is easier to treat but the people are generally fitter than the smokers. I would try to quote a statistic but it would just be me vaguely trying to dredge up a single sentence the Oncology registrar told me 3 weeks ago.

Actually I think he is full of shit and it is due to his smoking and drinking. I was being sarcastic.

I just love how he is saying his wife is clean now. Yeah. Cause that makes it better. LOL It's just means he has been eating at a foreign restaurant so to speak. Not a surprise. He's been a cheater all along.
