Coming of age in the 1980's was totally awesome! I loved the music and still listen to many great tunes from that golden era. So many, in fact, that I will be posting multiple times to this list for sure.

Let's get started!

Sex as a Weapon - Pat Benatar

80’s had way to many great songs to pick just one

sweet dreams (are made of this). or practically any other eurythmic song.

I liked punk, hardcore and Oi! In the 80s.

I’m 54 so came of age in the 80s. Really digging bands that I wish I liked more then: XTC, The Fixx. Have had Peter Schilling - Major Tom in my head a lot recently.

Peter Schilling "Major Tom" is the best 80's synth/new wave song there is.

Van Halen's "Panama" is probably 80's hard rock at it's best though. After that, Ratt, Poison, Guns N' Roses, Warrant, Bon Jovi, Cinderella and Firehouse happened and it was all downhill as far as hard rock.

As Mtnmike sarcastically implied (perhaps unintentionally?) all those bands were pretty much interchangable.

That's a tough one! After some thought, I had to go for the song that led me down the dark, left hand path of heavy metal, in my early teens. The song requires so much energy, that Bruce Dickinson rarely sings it anymore (He is about 60 now!).

The intro never fails to raise the hairs on the back of my neck and Dave Murray's guitar solo near the end is up there with the best!

❤️

Mine is Running to Stand Still by U2.

Most of my favorites were dead, split, or inactive in the 80s or they started in the 90s. Kate Bush and Neil Diamond were active then, so any of their 80s songs, or 99 Luftballons, or Too Drunk to Fuck, which is a Dead Kennedys song, but my favorite version is by Nouvelle Vague in 2004. Or some Depeche Mode.

And now I have to play the entirety of The Queen is Dead by The Smiths. Because Youtube is a gateway drug.
