I’ve had a comment which has made me rethink my normal genre of romance.

“Cuck romance.”

Does this exist? Am I in fact writing a cuck drama? Is it cucking if there’s no consummation of the cucking?

Am I overthinking this?

What's with the whole cuckold thing? I swear, five years ago it barely got a mention, and now it's constant. I probably don't want an explanation, but it seems to me there's a whole bunch of men with a nebulous grip on their sexuality.

Here's me, thinking it's Chaucer, and apparently it's a whole way of life. Very odd.

I mean I’ve got a storyline where the wife is grieving after bereavement and is moving on. But it doesn’t translate into sex. So is that really cucking if the husband is “dead” (spoiler alert) and if ultimately they don’t consummate?

Curious minds need to know!

I associate cucking if the husband sits in an armchair as his wife is having sex with another man. So with a dead husband this situation would be a strange kind of romance.

For what it's worth, as a cuckolding story fan, I have a very firm grip on my sexuality.

I'm bisexual.

What's the attraction? Genuinely (albeit remotely) curious - it does nothing for me as a kink.
Well, there are a million different ways of looking at it:

1. From a dramatic point of view, there's an element of taking a humdrum marriage and either blowing it up completely or reaching a new and higher equilibrium (I don't mind either RAAC or BTB stories, but prefer that it's not completely clear which way the chips will fall right from the start of the story).

2. There's probably a cathartic horror perspective where all your insecurities about how satisfied your spouse truly is with you are painfully realised in the negative.

3. There's the voyeuristic aspect of having your own live porn show put on for you.

4. There's the hippy aspect of seeing the person you love made truly happy, along with the realization that they maybe weren't as boring as they seemed two decades into a marriage.

5. There's the bisexual aspect of enjoying an attractive and sexually potent man do his stuff (even if the story is strictly het).

6. There's humiliation and submissive elements that can be played up if desired. A certain amount of performative cruelty can be sexy.

7. There's the social and psychological liberation of casting off what society demands of a married couple.

8. There's the pride of knowing the person who has chosen you as a life-partner still *has it* (just like you've been telling them for years...)

And so on and so on...

0. Most of all, whereas all the stories about pretty young things meeting other pretty young things definitely aren't about me as I am now, a lot of the cuckolding stories almost could be...

(...if my wife were into that sort of thing. It's probably not even 'alas' to say that she isn't because, like so many stories on Lit, it probably wouldn't be a great idea to actually live it).

The problem is that people confuse consensual and non-consensual infidelity. There is actually a specific (albeit archaic) term for the former—“wittolding”—yet these days it’s become fashionable to use “cuckolding” for everything, likely due to a fetish associated with the word’s derogatory connotation.

Am I overthinking this?
Yes. I might be able to guess at what it means by the psychology of the commenters who throw around "cuck," and you might be able to make a better guess since you're familiar with the story in question, but still, a two-word comment like that might as well not have been made at all.

I wish you had numbered that list. I'm often writing and reading similar stories, I feel like it could be a useful reference.

Are you Boris Johnson in disguise? ;-)
You know perfectly well that Boris Johnson would lie about being Boris Johnsomn, so why ask?

Did he use that specific phrase or justvthe general tone? Asking so I can avoid it in future.

It's what LW is really supposed to be, or at least in part.

And it does not need to include MM in any way.

As far as popularity ... cycles. T/I wasn't as popular some years ago.

Not to mention the proliferation of it being used as a totally generic and meaningless insult by a certain demographic.

You can tell what it is that they fear.

Thanks for this. Arousal bullseyes can vary so widely amongst us all, it's extremely valuable to hear background on interests one might not themselves possess. Beyond that you've given us cogent reasons for storytelling dynamics.

I enjoy femdom and find the thought of being a cuckold interesting. The wife humiliates her husband by coming home full of cum for him to clean up...but I've been married for 67 years, and we have never discussed it. I think it's one of those ideas that sound good but...maybe not easy to do.
