♫♪♫♪ State Of The Union Address Thread: 2/5/2019 ♫♪♫♪

he was thrilled that nancy and her purse sat close enough to him so he could visit his balls. :D

Another thing about Trump: Man, he pats himself on the back a lot.

You've never heard a president say "Under my watch things have sucked" during the State of the Union. Trump has his faults, but adding this one for this event might be a bit unfair.

yowzer! 90 minutes and more guest stars than an entire season of "the love boat". everyone from a kid with brain cancer to a holocaust survivor! i kept thinking if he brought out a drag queen and a midget, every base would be covered.

Jesus. Ninety minutes? Why on earth would a man as artless and inarticulate as Donald Trump do that to himself? Must have been excruciating for the audience.

LMFAO. You'd have said that even if Trump soiled himself.

Of course, he can drool on himself, and the cheerleader would still cheer for him.

I don't get the Socialist trashing, don't these rightists, who aren't really spring chickens, rely on Medicare to keep them alive? This is a socialist program.

It's so fucking WEIRD to me.

I was surprised to hear Trump mention the Jerusalem embassy. Just a few days ago we heard Trump say he never takes anything off the table, but last year at this time, taking Jerusalem off the table was all we heard about.

Overall not a bad speech.

The guy's obvious love of country continues to surprise me. It resonates from Trump more than any other president that I can recall.

Yet he, like Bush Junior and Clinton ran away from Service, but Carter, HW Bush, and candidate Kerry did not, but they were the ones derided as wimps.

Triumph of appearance over substance perhaps. I call it the John Wayne syndrome where folk prefer to believe myth over reality. :)

Turns out Johnny (or what was it ... Marion?) was kind of an ass. And a belligerent one at that. And then there was Walter Brennan who I used to like. Once I found out a few things, i won't watch his films, even the better ones.

This isn't a defense?

You should have left that last paragraph out of your post if you were not defending him to some degree.

But why is this a problem? You're a Trump fan.

Please see my enhancements to your response.

No, it was not a defense. It was a critical commentary on a thoroughly hypothetical scenario which, even if it ever occurred, he would almost certainly handle badly. And I am decidedly NOT a Trump FAN. And THAT is the problem. That the political landscape is so divided today that people can't have political discussions about policies without drawing divisive partisan lines.

My post was a rebuke and a lament of a man who has made the drawing of these divisive partisan lines FAR WORSE and cannot stay out of his own way even IF he might advocate or stumble upon a policy or course of action that is wholly legal and/or arguably in America's best interest.

Example: I don't think the Mexican border wall is the most effective way to curtail illegal immigration. I think it would have minimal effect if built out completely to Trump's specifications. But I believe the ISSUE of illegal immigration is important, and that this nation and any President of it has an obligation to try and stop it. That shouldn't be controversial. But Trump can't do it without coloring the issue to its detriment with racism.

He has the world's greatest bully pulpit from which to build a powerful, rational conservative philosophy of governance when it is desperately needed and most of what he has done with it is to use it to be a bully.

That makes me sad, and it doesn't make me much happier on those fairly rare occasions when the President does something worthy of a defense.

But my post in question was NOT one of those occasions.

Thought he did a good job reaching across the aisle, which he had to do. Showed a sense of humor, which surprised me.

He’s a snake oil salesman. Of course he can be charming and make you believvvvve!

Not to mention that John Wayne was gay (or conveniently bi). :D

Haven’t those women the sense not to wear white after Labor Day?

LMFAO....well, that was the most uniquely entertaining SOTU I've ever watched.

Pure fucking gold. :D

Word to that D-Day Paratrooper though......
