Japanese netsuke (a miniature carving)
This one being two parts (like the European bronze) which fit together.
I am not certain that it is ivory (which is now mostly illegal to buy/sell).
More than likely it is not, though I purchased it many years ago.

In art school intaglio class we were charged with trying to copy a "master's" engraving. I chose Hans Bellmer. The professor actually had some prints to show me. I'll see if I can find my poor copy, I only printed a few.

Being in the U.S. and especially in the southeast where evangelism is so prominent, it's sometimes a stretch for me to get my head wrapped around the polar opposite.
