Wondering why there is an asterisk after some of the Wordles.

For instance today mine is 5/6*
I always have an asterisks
But others never have one.

App users vs website users? I use website.

Maybe denotes no hints were used? I never use hints.

I had noticed that too but was afraid to ask and show my Wordle ignorance again!

The asterisk signifies that you're doing it in hard mode, such that once you get a correct letter you can't make a word without it, and in the correct position, if you have that.
Some people like to make two completely different words to begin, using as many letters as possible, whatever suits.
You can change it in the settings.

I used the hints once, a long time ago, but then thought why bother?
It gives you a consonant and a vowel.
