2003 Survivor Discussion Thread

Immunity Thread Changes

Hey guys,

The last couple of weeks I've tried something different, posting the immunity threads the day of the drawing with the winning numbers at the top. So far it's seemed to work a little more smoothly than the other way, so I think I'm going to stick to it for the rest of the year.

If you want to change your immunity number, post it in the most recent immunity thread before the drawing, and it'll be okay.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Contest Bonus Points

This is an idea for next years survivor moderator, whoever that ends up being.

What about a bonus point for stories submitted to a contest? Like, the halloween or valentines contest. Stories are submitted into a regular category as well, but maybe they could be worth 4 pts instead of 3 or something. that might be fun.

I sort of think I rememember somewhere a mention of a thread for working on the chainstory, but I can't seem to find it. Am I remembering right? IF so can someone post a link? Thanks!!

I will be bending over for my public flogging at noon tomorrow.

Now that is a story idea!!

"Chicklet's Public Flogging." Is it fetish, BDSM, group, or celebrity?

There have actually been a bunch available, but I think most of them fell through. Your best bet at this time, IMHO, is to start your own... = (

Chain Stories

I would be interested in contributing to a chain story also. Where can I find some?:)

I don't believe there are any active chain stories going on right now, but if you're interested in starting one you should head for the author's hangout or story ideas and post a thread about it. I've fallen through on so many chain stories this year :( I don't want to say "i'm in!" cause I'm probably not.

It's none of my business, but I noticed something you all might be interested in. I was just now browsing the Non-English stories and came across one supposedly in Portuguese, My Comic QT, by PenanceS.

I say supposedly because I am Portuguese and can't understand a thing. I mean, seriously, it's the worse thing I have ever seen. The structure simply makes no sense at all, there isn't a single phrase where at least one word failed to be translated, half of the ones that did get translated were done so wrongly. The whole thing is a completely unreadable disaster.

Penance says at the end that This was converted with programming by freetranslation.com. I do not speak any other language than English, so any problems with wording were from that, and not me.

Am I the only one thinking that this is not only wrong, it's insulting to writers that take themselves seriously and, more importantly, to all readers?

I had never reported a story before, but I have now. Knowing Laurel, I don't think that story will remain on-line much longer.

He has one other non-English story posted, also using freetranslation.com. It didn't seem that much better to me, but since French isn't my native language, I didn't report that one. If any of you is fluent, you might want to check it out too.

It won't make a difference as far as the final result of the contest goes, but remember this when you're tallying the points. The category may be non-English, but it still needs to make sense in some language...

Ok so here's the question. Do we post on January first all the stories we have submitted even though they haven't posted yet so we can tally up points or what? It might be hard to keep track and keep everyone straight on just how many and which stories were posted prior to the last day because it might take Laurel a few days to post all the stories submitted.

Or do we just have to wait it out until Laurel lets us know who wins?

Submission Rules

All stories submitted between midnight 1/1/03 Pacific Time and midnight 12/31/03 Pacific Time are eligible for entry. Start date of contest is not a factor in story eligibility. Entry date of new contestants is not a factor in story eligibility.

Since the requirement is the date and time of submissin, Flicka could probably email her stories in and the date and time the email was sent would be the determining factor, even if they don't post until 2004. As I sit in front of my computer, it is 11:36 AM, PDT so she has 36 hours and 24 minutes. Good luck.

Happy new year to all and Congradulations to the winner

Lers all say congradulaions to Master V for winning this year. Thanks for the opportunity, and I want to say that its been great fun playing with you all this year. As for that portugese remark, I Tried to do it the best way that I knew how. I took a lot of flack for that story, and for the way that I went about it, but at least I DID go about it, in thebest fasion I knew, if I didn't do it "right" so what. at least I did it, and the other story that I wrote for the context that was translated was translated in the best Mannor that I knew how to do.
If no one can understand that certain people are not blessed by knowing another language bedises english, ah well.
I tried the best way that I knew how.
As for next year, Master V thanks for a great game this year, the challenge was fun. Good luck on moderating, and Chicklet thanks for all your help this year.
To all others who might want to go for it and win.
Go for it.
PenanceS Says Peace.
Juis suit Fini.
"I am done."

To all good thigs there comes an End.

PS. If any of my friend I.E Chicklet, Master V, Polite Succubus care to e-mail me please do.
For the rest of you, Good luck. PenanceS.

Thanks, PenanceS but it's not over yet, Chicklet hasn't been heard from, I think she's hidden away writing her cute ass off. Svenskaflicka isn't out of it yet either. I learned watching those two last year it's not over until Laurel declares the winner.

Sorry to see you bow out, although a bit relieved lol. Feel free to drop a line sometime to me and I hope you enjoyed yourself and the competition.

Good luck next year, MV:D

PenaceS is dropping out? No more submissions? PROMISE???

Then there is still hope for me...

...unless MV is righ, and Chicklet pops up at 11.55 tonight with 85 smoking stories!

I am inclined to agree with the way PenanceS feels. I will be competing next year,m assuming there is a competition next year, but I write because I like to and I hope to give people pleasure from reading my stories, and I hope they tell me about the pleasure they derive. I will submit stories as I finish them; I don't intend to amass them and submit them in a rush at the end of the year. To me, that seems contrary to the purpose of the site:rolleyes: At least, I think that is the way PenanceS feels.

I've just tallied my points and was slightly disapointed to 'only' have 64.

Next to Master V's 209 and Flicka's 163, it's not much. Still, from the score sheets that have been tallied so far, it seems that I *may* have come in a distant third.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see:)

I was wrong:(

Looks like maybe I came in 6th.

PenanceS (150), Boxlicker (107), and Jessy 19 (80) beat me out. I sure hope no one else appears to squeeze me down any lower.

Oh well. Congrats to Master V and Svenskaflicka- I'm not sure if second counts in Survivor or not but you both blew the rest of us away, so congrats to both. Master V- any chance that you are retiring after your win?

Sweet, I hate to breeak this to you, but Chicklet had 91 the last time I looked, and she may have more now. There is still almost six hours before the deadline.

Sweet, I may be forced into retirement or at least waiting to start a posting spree until the summer. Work has me swamped and I actually just signed on to start with an extra six hours a day in January so weekends, nope, that's soccer time. I guess I will have to find a little time to write each week. So everyone else will have a head start.

so I still have time?:p

I've done all the damage I can do. I ended up with 212 points if I added correctly. I might be off by three I'm not sure lol. Even so 209 wouldn't be a bad tally either. Thanks all for playing along and good luck in 2004.
