Day 2: A holiday film with Santa Claus

Both versions of Miracle on 34th Street are classics as far as I'm concerned. Which I watch depends on my mood. Do I want the prettier aesthetics of a black and white movie from the 1940s or do I want to be reminded of why I was religiously watching a legal drama back in elementary school (Dylan McDermott πŸ₯΅)? Well, it turns out I'm going to pick the hot pretend lawyer more often than not 🀣 I'm so sorry to be thirsting on your Christmas thread, @lavendersilk, forgive me please πŸ™πŸΌ

Love Judy Garland's version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas... not sure why they changed the lyrics in later versions.
Because it is a sad little Christmas song, and was originally written sadder, including "It may be your last / Next year we may all be living in the past." Garland asked Martin to change that.

It all makes sense in context in the film. Only Garland (and Rolf from the Muppets) seem to understand the song fully, at least for me.

You are forgiven. 😘

Day 2: A holiday film with Santa Claus

Great googly moogly, have I got a movie for you! A Mexican film, 1959's Santa Claus starts with Santa in his... space station. With Merlin. Down in Hell (which, unfortunately, is not also a space station) Satan tells his number one dude, Pitch, to turn all of the children against Santa or he will make Pitch eat chocolate ice cream. (From both a mythological and theological standpoint, this movie is somewhat suspect.) Along the way you have robot reindeer, Santa yelling at kids for lying in their letters to him, parental abandonment, evil dolls, dolls meant to go to baby Jesus, and --my favorite-- a fist fight on the sleigh between Santa and Pitch, the lactose intolerant demon.

And then it gets weird.

It helped that the first time I saw this marvel, on MTV, I was tripping balls. MST3K got a hold of it, but honestly, it wasn't really necessary. This movie is perfect by itself. It is in the public domain, so you can find it in its entirety on YouTube as well without incurring Santa's wrath, because he ain't afraid to coal a bitch. Just ask the kids who try to sleigh-jack him.

Day 1: A holiday movie you watch every year

This is not a movie. BUT, in my defense, there are almost no Hanukkah movies and I don’t celebrate Christmas. And… I wanna playyyy. There are a couple Christmas movies that I do watch every year but they’ve already been taken and this thread needs at least a crumb of diversity. Right? 🀞
I watch this episode every year!
