OOC: This is a new attempt at a thread I began a few years ago with another writing partner. Welcome, melodie69...
IC:
A Beautiful Sister
It's a curse having a gorgeous sister.
The worst part is, she doesn't seem to realize how good-looking she is. In nearly every other woman I've seen, the ones who aren't conceited about how pretty they are come off as even more beautiful. With her, it just means more work for me.
She has no idea how long I've been keeping the wolves at bay. I've gotten into fights with guys who I deemed unworthy of her, and trust me, there have been plenty. As her older brother by a year, one of the worst times for me was when I'd gone off to the local college and she was still atttending high school.
I'm not a big man, but the years of looking after Sis's suitors has beefed me up, so I'm not scrawny by any stretch, but neither am I a muscle man.
After a while, I started questioning my motives for being so protective of her. Why was I keeping all the other men from her? And why had I had so few girlfriends through school?
Once she graduated high school, she started attending the same college I did. Keeping it local had been the plan from when we were little.
My second year, the folks started making noises about my moving out. I guess they wanted more time alone or something. Sis took the cue, too, but since money was tight, she made a rather odd request: to room with me, her own brother.
Well, I certainly wasn't going to tell her no. To be honest, I liked the way she looked, and while I felt guilty about it, I caught glances of her every chance I got, too. I couldn't blame the guys for wanting her. It dawned on me one day: I wanted her, too.
Was that why I'd spent so much time keeping other guys from her?
