A Dangerous Game (Closed)

Reid watched her as her face changed as she went over the files. Then as she picked up the phone and dialed her old chief requesting more files be sent to her, he sat down in the chair across from her. He wanted to know exactly what she was getting at.

"What was that about Eden?"

He listened as she recounted the case that she remembered from being in the city. And began covering facts from the case with him. When she finished giving him the profile of the killer, he rose up out of the chair.

"Hold that thought Miss Wolf. I need to go get the rest of the unit so you can go over the same information with everyone. This may be a big step in profiling for this case that we need."

He left the office and went down the hallway to the conference room and gathered everybody up and brought them all back into the office. He walked over and stood behind her as she was still sitting.

"Now if you would please, go over everything with them the same as you just did with me. We need everyone to be on the same page if this is developing the way you see it."

Eden listened to Reid and nodded to him, yeah that would be a good idea she thought so she waited to for the gang to get in and she put on her laptop and then she looked up at everyone there and took a deep breath "As you wish" She quickly pulled her hair in a pony tail to get it out of her face and smiled a bit, thinking about where to start and decided she needed to start with New York so she turned her laptop showing the picture of the suspect and she started to think about this man.

"Alright I believe that this unsub of yours started in New York City, and I say that because the police found two Jane Does and they are still trying to find out who they are. Both had marks exactly like the ones on your victims here, as I was saying to Dr. Reid I feel this man may have a mental condition, hesitation marks on all the victims showed perhaps some remorse. Like one part of him is saying kill when the other part of him is trying to stop it. Split personality perhaps. But also in my findings the unsub did not use his dominate hand.

This case back home I never was involved in but I know the police Chief on the force, he wanted my opinion and this was before I even told anyone I had studied human behavior. This man here his name is Tony Parker. He was a suspect in the case but by the time the police found where he lived he had taken off. No one knew where he went, but I had a feeling he would surface again and he has. I have asked a favor with John Peterson the Chief of Police I have asked him to fax over the case notes from there, in hopes it would help us now"

Hotch stepped up as soon as Eden finished talking. He looked down with more of a solemn face than anything then turned his head and looked at the team. "Ok priority one is this file from the NYPD as soon as it gets here. We need to go down and get Garcia cross-referencing every little small detail form the files that we have so far. See if there are any other cases that match that she can see popping up anywhere else. This here may turn into a major break for us."

With that he and Rossi headed out of the office. JJ walked out as well and turned to head down to where Garcia was. Morgan stepped over next to Reid and smiled slightly at him. "I tell you Reid. This Miss Eden Wolf here may just be the one to give you a run for your money." He laughed a little then turned and walked out of the room as well.

Reid sat down in the chair and looked at Eden and smiled. "I think you're going to fit in just fine."

She smiled at Hotch and nodded "yes sir" she said in a respectful tone, this case and ones like it gave her the creeps. To think if this was the same man then it was personal, since she had lived in New York City all her life till now. Her stormy eyes looking at the evidence and thinking about everything. Her heart was pounding and all in all this was a lot for her young mind. But she could deal with it. That much she did know, all in all she looked up at the white board and began to think of something.

She smiled hearing what Morgan and what Reid said, looking at them both she smiled. "That honors me thank you, but just doing my job, you know a long time ago someone asked me why I wanted this kind of job. We had a family friend Bob Turner was his name, he was mothers best friend. But then on the one night I was over at his place because he had a daughter just to talk, and I heard screaming when I found the sound I saw Bob killing his wife. I was the reason he got the death penalty. So reasons I do this job are selfless"

As Reid sat back in the char, he looked and studied Eden. After all, that was part of his job as well. He listened to her recount the story from when she was younger.

"Miss Wolf, it seems to me that you have had more than your fair share of run ins with intense situations such as that. I can see why it would lead you into a position of where you are now with helping us but I can also see where it would turn into a detrimental circumstance concerning your thought patterns with being able to reason the facts from opinions.

Please don't that the wrong way though. You have proven in the short time that you have been here that you are just as capable as anyone at discerning the underlying facts in an Unsubs profile. I just want to make sure that over time it doesn't make you too headstrong that may lead you into a situation that could eventually turn out of your control."

Eden looked at him and heard what he said, it was amazing how he could get all that with just watching her. Looking down she heard the good point he made, she had to keep herself in check to not go rouge. Rubbing her chin as she looked up into Reid's eyes and nodded a little bit . "I wont let my self get to that point. I worked to hard to get to this point, and frankly I don't want to piss anyone off. Since that is not the kind of person that I am Doctor Reid, guess I have something to prove here.

But not enough for me to do something very stupid, so I will do my best to turn things around. And make it where it doesn't happen." Eden said with a kind smile on her face, it scared her that he said that. That she was the kind of person, she could not analyze herself since that was impossible for her. But she was glad he brought it to her attention, she would work twice as hard now. She refused to do it, so looking back over the evidence she began to play out the crimes in her head.

"I'm sure you won't get to that point Miss Wolf and that's why you are with me preliminarily. To ensure that you can keep your cool, so to speak. I see in you already what you can do for us. As far as proving yourself, that will be to Special Agent Hotchner. He is the one that you have to impress but he is not as bad as he seems at first."

He watched her as she dropped her head and began going back over the evidence. He stood from his chair and walked over next to her and since he had already went through all of the evidence himself, he wanted to see her go through it and get more thoughts from her about what she saw.

She had been looking through the files and stopped, remembering what Reid said and looked up at him. "I know he is a good guy Dr. Reid, when I looked into his eyes for the first ti me today. I saw a man who puts up a front, pushing people away afraid that they would get hurt. Seeing him and his rather cold side to him just shows he doesn't except anything but the best form his agents. And that is what I plan on doing for everyone, though I don't kiss peoples asses there is no respect in that" She chuckled.

But when he said she knew what she could offer and it got her thinking. "So what is it that I can offer to the team?" She knew loyalty was one thing but she had a feeling it was something else, looking into his eyes she felt at peace with him. And was glad she was assigned to him, running her fingers in her hair something she did when nervous. And unfortunately if he knew her as well as she thought, he would know that was her tell. She sat back knowing that the show would continue at any moment.

Reid leaned his back against the wall next to Eden and looked at her for a minute.

"Let me tell you a little something about Hotchner. He has developed into more of an overly protective fatherly model for every one of us in the unit. Once he approves you and you become part of the group you will notice his demeanor change towards you and you will see it too. He has seen and had to deal with a lot in the field. The worst case that took its toll on him was when the subject we were chasing went after Hotchner's ex-wife and son. We arrived at the house too late and his ex-wife was murdered. Hotchner went into a protective rage over his son and beat him to death until Morgan restrained him. For a while, Hotchner relinquished command of the unit to Morgan. So you see, there is more to everyone in this unit that what you can just pick up from an outward appearance.

Just like with you. You're not only loyal but you're determined. What I see that you can offer is first and foremost a fresh pair of eyes to look over evidence. Personally, with working with you, I see someone that has studied like me and is in the same mindset. Someone that can take the evidence and can calculate every shred to put together the most accurate profile. And from watching you now, I can tell from your body language and your subtle action that you run your fingers through your hair when you feel nervous in a situation."

Eden listened to him and was shocked about what happened to his ex wife, it took her by surprise she had no idea. Normally she would get information about people she would be working for. And right now she was up in the air about everything. Looking down she could not imagine what he had to have gone through. It was touching to know this about him, and was just beyond happy with how things were going. But she nodded a little bit, point blank he was a good man that much she did know.

But then she heard what Reid said and chuckled. "Yeah working here makes me nervous, like I am going to forget to do something. But I guess only time will tell on everything huh?" She said with a kind look on her face. All in all she started to get more comfortable, the way Reid looked at her made her curious what was on his mind. Right now she did not have a clue, but she would get there one day. But for now they had a job to do and she would do a damn good job, because she never did things half assed.

"I can tell you guys are friends and family to each other, which is rather nice to see really. And its highly rare, I know when I worked with the police they were a bit more unfriendly. Kinda like they had a stick up there ass or something, but I am glad that I know what I know now. Hopefully it will help me and in the long run help us as a whole. Though I have a feeling it will, and I always stick to my gut feelings. It was nice to be able to take that moment, things were just so screwed up.

"I think you will find it great being a part of this unit Eden" Reid paused catching himself realizing that he had used her first name and that was unlike him. He looked at her for a moment. "You won't make a mistake. You have the training. I've been all through your file. You're a good fit for this time. You're a good fit for me. Umm...working with me.

You will see that we are unlike any other law enforcement group anywhere. We rely on each other. No one goes off on a tangent on their own. Everyone knows that would put the whole BAU in jeopardy. As I said, we are a team. We are a unit. We are a family. And we all have each other's backs."

As soon as he finished talking the team came back into the room with Hotch leading the way. He came to the table holding the file that came in from the chief. "We know where he is. Everybody head to the airport. We are heading back to Miss Wolf's old ground. We are going to New York. Garcia has pinpointed his location."

Eden smiled when he called her by her first name, and believe it or not that meant a lot to her. That he called her Eden, it was easy to tell how happy she was. But not the over the top happy, she knew that everything would be okay in due time. Once she got to know everyone better, and was proud to be in the unit. She did not have degrees but she was good at what she did, and enjoyed her work very much. Sighing a little bit as she looked back up at the board, and began to reenact what happened to the victim.

It was gruesome but she had seen worse or heard of worse any way, but she looked closer at the pictures. And running things in her head, and using her gut instinct. She heard a voice behind her and noticed Hotch. She nodded a bit and sighed, she did not have evidence and she knew that was what they dealt with. They could not act on hunches and she looked at Reid, she decided she would have to tell him what she felt. She pulled her hair back in a pony tail and looked at everyone that had gathered.

"Sir I think there may be a second person helping the unsub, I know you do not deal in hunches you deal with facts and what you know about the unsub. And if there is a second person, he will know how to use weapons as well. Military men, I hope to god I am wrong but my gut instinct is going on over drive. I guess its just a warning since again I have no evidence I know, but just wanted to open up the possibility of two people. The bodies were dumped much to quickly" She said and walked with them to there jet.

They all stopped as they made their way towards the jet. Hotch turned and looked at Eden straight faced. Not trying to talk down to her but simply being on edge as they all usually were when they had a lead and were headed out to it. "You're right Miss Wolf. We don't run on hunches here. That's something we can't take chances on. If you feel that strongly that there may be two involved, then do what you have to do to gather up the information and we will take a look at it."

With that he turned and walked towards the jet again as everyone else followed behind him. Reid turned towards her as they neared the jet and begin to board. "Don't take that personal, but he is right. We will look over everything together if you feel that way and we'll see what we can come up with."

They loaded up and settled in as the jet took off and headed towards NYC. Soon they landed and made their way to Eden's old stomping ground....the precinct she was stationed at to meet with the Chief.

Eden watched as the team looked at her, she heard what was said and nodded. She was silent and smiled at Reid. "I know" The whole trip she was silent, and was looking over everything that she had. But was she right? Something was just so different, but right now there was just nothing more that could be done. She did not know how this would all pan out, but something was eating away at her. Once she got out of the jet and headed back to the precinct she smiled a little bit, closing her eyes as she sighed.

Seemed nice that everything was nice, everything was to the point and she smiled seeing the chief. She shook his hand and introduced the gang that was with her, she walked into a room she use to call it the murder room. She saw the boxes and her eyes looked down at a name, and it hit her. Finally she had been found, a girl she had gone to school with. Her heart almost sunk into her and she just relaxed best she could. She saw some of the team coming in, and opened up the file.

"I knew this girl, they tied her into the murders. I told them the MO looked the same, and finally. She went missing her mother gave a statement though she did not know English, though they kept the tape" She said looking up.

The flight was uneventful. Everyone was in their element studying the files and wrapping their heads around everything that they had so far. Hotchner sat over by himself wondering what new insights they may be able to get once they saw more of the files that the NYPD had gathered from different crime scenes. Finally, the plane landed and they made their way to the precinct.

Eden led the way in and began introducing everyone from the BAU. Hotcher walked up to the chief to shake hands. "Chief Peterson, it's a pleasure meeting you. I am Special Agent Hotchner from the behavior analysis unit in Quantico. This is my team and if you would give us a place to set up we would like to get to work as soon as possible."

They were led to a conference room by Eden which she called the murder room once everyone was filing in and she began going through a file box. The team began laying out other evidence all along the table as eden began talking about the file she had worked briefly.

Hotchner raised his head and looked across the table at her. "Do you think that has anything to do with the current case since that one involved a child? The others were adult victims. Why would the Unsub commit one act then completely change his MO?"

Eden got right to work but then what happened did, she looked up at Hotchner and slowly stood up. Taking out the pictures of each woman who was killed. And took out the picture of the girl she knew she had to make her case and because everyone had been doing this kind of thing for years, she had only been with them a couple days now. Looking down at the table she closed her eyes and knew she had to do the victims justice and to prove her point. She opened up her eyes and looked at the team.

"Yes I do, with everything I have studied lately the proof is there buried in the evidence. The unsub has not zoned in with age that is not his deal, each women were the same to the unsub. They share many different similarities. All the victims had the same height, weight, eye and hair color. Which tells me he has a fixation on this type of woman, he is blind to age that isn't his deal. Much like the Alphabet Killer who attacked in 2006 with him it was him zoning in on the names Carmen Colon, Wanda Walkowicz and Michelle Maenza"

She took out her laptop and opened up her files and hooked it up so they could see it "The wounds on all women the same size of the blade used. The blade is a special military knife, I only know this because my father who served from the time he was nineteen till he was thirty five. The knife is given to certain people, one who has proven him or her self the one in charge of the unit. But I have noticed something that seemed to be over looked on each body two of the stab wounds are inconsistent they are shallow stabbings.

Which tells me that there truly are two people involved I spent enough time going over to prove my point. I think he is teaching someone how to kill, the wounds made by the same knife. Each knife wound has gone all the way through the bone. But two on every body have been shallow like the person stabbing did not have the strength to do it. I am not suggesting a woman but I am suggesting a young male around twelve years old. I have studied serial killers for six years, and there have been a few cases of this."

She brought up the articles showing five cases where an adult taught very young children. "I think there maybe a father like bond between the two" She hoped the argument was enough to make her point. She knew she had a lot to learn but she made the points, looking at the pictures of the women and of the girl she knew. But looking at the map to where the killings where, she thought of what Hotch said that she heard. She narrowed her eyes a little bit and thought for a moment.

"I remember last year going to a conference that was being taught about Unsubs, was the first time I ever laid eyes on Doctor Reid and I know you were speaking there to sir, you used the term L.D.S.K.. Took me forever to figure out what it meant but now I finally figured it out. Since I am still new to this. Long Distant Serial Killers, and I would say our Unsub is one of them. There is a pattern that can only be noticed on a map." Looking at the white board her eyes darting around it.

"Doctor Reid once said "Overkill means rage. Rage means a close personal relationship, and these killings were rage killings by how many stab wounds there were." She crossed her arms unsure if she made the point or not but she had to try anyway.
