A Fallen Kingdoms Profecey

Lucas watched the lithe figure of Princess Ava walk over to him almost mystified by the sight of the lake. and he couldn't blame. With all of the under brush that was in the forest, and the direction away from the road that the lake was located made it a difficult place to find despite it's proximity to the town they had just left shortly after sunset. He watched her hips sway seeming to be thankful to get away from the thick vines, and bushes that coated the floor of the woods. He sighed as she neared him, and looked back to the lake, and nodded at her request to sit next to hm. He didn't say anything as she began talking, but nodded a few times as she talked about him referring to her by her name rather than her title.

As she began to thank him he turned to look at her, a smile having formed on his lips while his eyes locked with hers, and he once again nodded to her still not saying a word, and his gaze returned to that of the lake. Lucas was content to just sit there for the rst of the night until he grew tired enough for bed, but then her questioning of his reason for sticking with them came up, and he shifted nervously for a second. He thought about it a moment after had shifted his weight, before his eyes turned towards her, and he finally broke his silence with words so sift they seemed like a whisper. "Hm. I guess I'm lonely." the simple answer was all he gave while keeping his eyes locked on hers for several seconds.

As their gazes were still locked he decided to ask her a question of his own. "Do you really think the Diviner of Witch Haunt will be able to give you any more information than you have already obtained from her, or do you believe she didn't tell you everything in the first place?" The duel edged question was spoken in that same whisper as to leave the big guy to both his contemplations, and his mourning. Lucas had still not been introduced to he the girl who was killed back in the town, and thus he was able to keep him self from getting involved with them, but the Princess was an entirely different story with all the stories he had heard from his father about the old Sembian royal family. He kept his eyes on hers as he awaited her reply to his some what harsh question, but he wanted to know before the dangerous trip to the inner Witch Haunt.

Ava

He didn’t seem too much in the mood, as he continued to glace away towards the lake. He seemed almost lost in thought. She waited for his answer to her question and tucked her feet under her, her eyes falling upon the stars once again. As he spoke she kept her gaze to the stars and sighed, she knew the feeling of lonliness all to well having no family or friends in her life. She enjoyed the companionship of her guards, well…guard now, but it wasn’t the same as having a friend. Bringing her gaze to meet his she managed another smile for him and found herself lost once more in his eyes. When his question rang in her ears she turned her sights towards the fire, catching sight of Drakon, who was still lost in thought.

“When we went in last time, I felt as though something wasn’t being told to me. I can’t explain it but I feel we need to go back.” She paused and took a slow deep breath before looking back into his eyes. “And now that you are with us, I want to find out something that’s been tugging at the back of my mind…I think…” She stopped short and shook her head, “I just think you may be the other from the prophecy…”she said softly pushing her hair from her eyes as she watch his response to her statement. After a few minutes of silence she nearly jumped as Drakon spoke, “Lucas, do you know of your birth?” her eyes darted quickly towards the old man and she raise a curious eyebrow.

“Do you know of the circumstances of which you were born, and why your father died when he did?” Drakon asked staring hard at Lucas, seeming to have almost forgotten Ava’s presence. Ava looked back and forth between the men and jumped once more as Drakon addressed her. “Ava perhaps you should ready yourself for bed, I would like to speak to the young man alone for a moment.” Ava nearly protested but seeing the look the old man was giving her she nodded and stood feeling the curiosity growing within her. She looked down once more at Drakon and Lucas before walking towards the lake, figuring she could atleast clean up her face and arms before laying out her bed roll and going to bed.

Drakon
Drakon stared hard into the flames, his grief filling his mind as the princess and the young man spoke. The sight of his daughters limp form laying in the princesses lap filled his mind as he tried to force back his rage. His gazed moved towards the Ava she’d been so close to Jayden, they were naught but a few years apart and as such were able to get along with one another. Yet Ava still found a way to smile. He knew he couldn’t let his anger consume him but it was all that he could do not to hunt down the bastards that had caused his daughter’s death. After a moment he cleared his throat as the princess spoke her mind of his involvement in the prophecy.

At his question Lucas looked rather shocked, and Drakon turned his gaze towards the princess deciding he’d probably be more apt to talk of his family without an audience. As he spoke to Ava he tried to keep his tone soft but it still came out in a loud, rough tone. He hated seeing the hurt in Ava’s eyes, but something told him she’d be over it after all. If she really wanted to stay and hear she’d fight him, but tonight she wouldn’t. He watched as she stood and walked towards the lake and turned his gaze back towards Lucas waiting for his reply.

The man before him looked so much like his father, it was almost like a mirrored image. It’d been years ago since Drakon had shown up on his old friends doorstep the young princess cradled in his arms. He had a great respect for that man, and now looking upon his son he already knew he deserved very much the same respect. After all he’d fought to aid them in escaping the town and he fought bravely at that. He broke his eyes towards the princess’s form as she knelt by the lake and then back to Lucas respect filling his gaze.

Lucas was satisfied with her answer for now, but then her body guard spoke and his back stiffened like aboard for he wasn't comfortable talking about his birth. The reasons for this were quit simple first of all his mother had died giving birth to him, and the way his father had always acted had left him with a guilty conscience even though he couldn't have helped it. Second of all it was none of their business. His eyes narrowed as a shadow of danger crossed his handsome features directed right at the old body guard. He sat there letting his gaze fall on the unmoving and waiting form of the big man for many moments not saying a word.

His thoughts were a swirl of anger as he all of a sudden wanted nothing more than to bear his blades, and attack the man for bringing up such a subject when it had nothing to do with his. His stare intensified as he finally spoke in a calm tone that promised death. "That's none of your concern." Lucas let that sink in for many more moments, before he let his gaze fall on Ava, but found that she had left the area before he had ever spoken. gaze snapped back to look at the big man, and the chance of being alone like this was almost too much for Lucas, and so he practiced a breathing a breathing technique to calm himself just like his father had taught him.

Lucas spent a while longer challenging the big man to speak on the subject more once he had calmed the fire of anger that wanted to erupt at the man who had brought up a subject that was better left alone; especially by some one who had not even properly introduced them self. Lucas had calmed, and he could see the man was thinking more carefully on the conversation. After all these years it still hurts too much to speak of. Lucas's thoughts carried a lingering sorrow as he looked at the big man; the dangerous shadow having left his features in a frown.

Ava

Ava knelt before the lake and gazed at the reflection of the moon for a moment remaining as silent as possible. However neither of the men seemed to be speaking. Lucas had looked so dumbstruck and hurt at Drakon's question. Cupping her hands she lowered them to the water and splashed her face with the cool liquid. She shivered and drew her hair back away from her shoulders, taking a small rag and dipping it into the water rubbing it gently against her neck and arms wiping away the dirt and sweat of the day. She glanced back at the men who seemed to finally be talking but they were just out of ear shot. As she finished cleaning up she stood and decided it would be best for her to leave them a bit longer before going over to turn in for the night.

She walked around the lakes edge and sighed her mind drifting over Lucas, his eyes filling her vision bringing a soft smile to her lips. She couldn’t tell what it was about him but something told her he was someone she could trust and rely on. She hoped that he would stay with her and help her through this, but she knew that was her own selfishness talking. She never really had anyone other than her bodyguards, and she saw Lucas as a possible friend, if he let her through his wall. She of course had a wall of her own, but she doubted that anyone would ever gain her trust enough to break through it. As she turned around she realized she’d walked quite a bit away from the fire, and started walking back her eyes one the form of Lucas.

Drakon

The old man stared unblinkingly at Lucas and sighed, "Your father told me of your mothers death, she was truly a wonderful woman, and she would be proud to see the many you've become today." he paused a moment and glanced around noticing that the princess was wandering off a bit. He didn't worry too much about it for she was still in his sights but he turned and looked back to Lucas, seeming almost oblivious to his anger towards him. "The reason I ask is because of the prophecy...You are the one the prophecy speaks of, I'm sure of it. The night your father took us in we sat down and talked of it, he told me of the circumstances of your birth and how he'd found your mother with you in her arms. He was too late to save her but he found his heart ache more than you think."

Drakon's expression softened and he stared into the flames. "I've not told the princess because it is her destiny to discover these things for herself. I cannot interfere which is why I must leave her to fulfill it. I can't protect her any longer, its not my job. You've seen just a glimpse of how strong she can be, but I think you're the key to unlocking her true strength." the man's words were bold he knew but he could care less, "Even more, I think she's the key to unlocking your true strength as well." He looked up as Ava came closer, and stopped talking opting to gaze into the fire, still seeming to be lost in thought.

After hearing the man's rant Lucas decided that he must be mad with grief for the old oaf was talking none sense. Lucas stood as he could see that Ava was making her way back to camp, and before he headed off he looked back at the overly bold man. "I'll do as you've asked, and take care of her." The tone Lucas spoke in told the man what he thought of this prophecy talk, and then he turned his head his silver hair shining in the moon light as he walked in the direction that Ava was coming from. As he neared her he spoke in a calm melodic voice. "I'll be back in a minute, I'm checking the area for trouble. It won't take me long." Lucas finished his words as he brushed up against her, as he continued with out missing a beat into the dark woods.

Lucas was glad to be away from camp as his conversation with that stranger had been rather unsettling, and now he wanted some time to him self. Once out of sight from the camp he broke into a run keeping his feat up as he moved the day had left him slightly tired, and if he wasn't careful even somone as well trained as him would end up tripping on the under brush of the forest. He moved out some distance, and came to a halt at a shear cliff that gave a great view of a water fall that gave life to the lake. That river must continue west to give the town a full water supply, or they would have cleared out the forest. His thoughts seemed distant, but they gave him an idea that would cut their travel time in half.

He moved around for another hour while looking for his goal, and finally found it in the form of a river that headed east. Ha! Thought so, if we can make a raft this trip will be easy. His elation was not with out merit for it would have taken them a full ten day if he hadn't found this path, but by river it would only take a couple of day if the current help strong, and they didn't run into any rain. His smile was genuine as he began to circle back around the river which took two hours with him not wanting to run back around. He made it back late with his spirits high expecting everyone to be sleeping. He made sure to make noise however as to not startle them in surprise, and then the camp came into view the fire having dimmed slightly thus not granting him a perfect view of the camp sight.

Ava watched as Lucas’s form stood when she came closer her eyes full of worry and curiosity as he walked towards her. “Is everything…” she broke off her words as he brushed past her, feeling the tension in the air, even though his voice was soft towards her. She paused and watched as he walked towards the woods. As he disappeared within the thick foliage she sighed and turned towards the camp her eyes fixed on Drakon. “What happened, what did you say to him. What if he doesn’t come back?” she said staring hard at the man who didn’t move his gaze from the flames. When he didn’t respond she sat down glaring at him, “I …I think he’s the one from the prophecy Drakon, we need him to stay with us what did you tell him?”

She waited in silence her eyes staring unblinkingly into the mans as he seemed to have almost ignored her words. Picking up a stick she poked at the flames hearing it pop in protest as she shifted the logs. “He’s not going anywhere, he just needs to think. But you need to get rest Princess, you have a long journey ahead of you.” She raised a curious eyebrow at him and wondered why he hadn’t said ‘we’. She bit her lip and looked back hoping to see Lucas coming in from the forest but there was no sign of him. “You’re not coming are you?” she asked keeping her eyes on the forest.

“I guess I should have known that we would part after we found the other person…” she kept her face turned from his as she stood up and pulled out her bedroll keeping her back turned from him and her face towards the forest. She hated saying goodbye and didn’t care at the moment that she may one day regret it. She lay down and pulled Jayden’s cloak from the bag and wrapped it around her form in a makeshift blanket. She lay there watching the forest for Lucas’s return in silence.

Lucas was finally coming to the camp site he had picked around what he could only guess was almost midnight. The fire was burning low, but the half moon in the sky gave enough light for him to see Ava sitting on her bed roll with her head resting against her pack, her eyes were closed, and she appeared to been trying to stay up, but inevitably found her self dozing to sleep. Le looked around for the man who was her body guard but found no trace of him, and suspected that he had left the moment she fell asleep. The place Lucas had picked to be their camping spot didn't seem like it was particularly dangerous, and even the animals of the area seemed to stay away walking instead around the area to the lake for water.

He sighed as he approached his bed roll which was where he left it, but his eyes didn't leave her sleeping form. That was when he changed directing thinking that she was most likely uncomfortable in that position, and would wake up with neck cramps if she wasn't set into a lying position soon. He had just got up to her kneeling down in front of her to help her into a better position when he heard her whimper in her sleep. Her body began to thrash slightly, and the pack was soon rolled off to the side of her bed roll her head quickly falling to the ground. he caught her head before she it crashed into the hard ground, and gently laid it down to lay on her bed roll which had a raised area of cushion just for her head.

She continued thrashing, and seemed to be having a terrible dream, as her whimpering grew louder and several incoherent words flowed from her lips. He placed his hand on her check and gave it light caresses while whispering into her ear in a soothing melodic voice. She seemed to calm at that, and her thrashing stopped, but her whimpering continued. He made him self comfortable at the side of her bed roll, and his hand didn't leave her face all night as he continued to whisper into her ear as to try and keep her nightmares at bay. By morning her breathing had calmed, and her sleep slightly more restful, but her nightmares had never gone away completely.

However now the sun made it rise from the horizon in the east to bath the two in the light of day, the moon making it's last retreating motion to the west to bath the other side of the world in its dim light. It wasn't until the moon had completely faded from view that he felt her head move into his hand, and her eyes began to flutter open. "Morning." He said softly to her as her mind was clearing the fog of sleep. Lucas didn't look to much worse for the wear even though he hadn't slept all night, he didn't even have dark circles around his eyes being used to keeping watch at night, and marching in the day. "How did you sleep?" While he already knew the answer he asked away way, more out of being polite, and making conversation than any other reason his azure eyes locked on her dazed lavender ones.

Ava’s eyes began to feel heavy as she gazed impatiently at the edge of the forest expecting at any moment that Lucas would come forth from the trees. Soon she found herself drifting off into a fitful sleep, not knowing that Drakon had slipped away shortly after, never looking back at her sleeping form as he did such. The dreams came quickly, sending her into an even more restless state as they haunted her mind.

Screams and cries filled the air as the flames rose high within the house where slept the princess and several of her body guards. They had found them, it hadn’t taken too long, or much effort for they knew their every move. Drakon lifted the young princess as she stirred from her sleep and grabbed his daughter, taking them through a secret door a few feet below their enemies. Jayden and the princess looked at each other fear laden in their eyes. Soon they were joined by one last body guard the only one left alive from the attack as they made their way under ground. Dulled screams above them send Ava into a fit of tears, she didn’t want anymore people hurt because of her.

As they made their way towards the surface she knew something was wrong. All was quiet around them and as Drakon set her down he too seemed to know something was amiss. Taking Jaydens hand Ava put up a weak shield and Drakon drew his blades. An arrow flew from deep within the trees and struck her other body guard straight through the heart. Another arrow bounced against the weak shield that was protecting the young girls and their gaze fell upon Drakon. He too had a protective shield around him, and he motioned for Ava to lower her shield. Both girls ran forward and wrapped themselves around Drakon’s legs clinging as though for dear life as he shot several bolts of energy into the trees and teleported them out. They were in a different town, one that wasn’t too far away from the scene that was taking place. However their eyes fell upon bodies piled way over their heads and Ava saw a sign one that had haunted her for years, “Thus is the fate of any who stand against the new order.”

Ava could hear a soothing voice in the back of her mind as her dream continued, and all through the rest of her dream it became easier and easier for her to relax, but peace didn’t come in full. She was barely asleep now, starting to stir as the warmth of the sun swept across her face. She turned slightly and felt a hand upon her cheek. As her eyes fluttered open she stared up into Lucas’s soft azure gaze, and gave him a soft smile. As his question reached her ears she sighed and sat up stretching slightly before returning her gaze to meet his. She wondered slightly if he had stayed up all night, and if he had known she was having nightmares. Deciding it best not to lie to him she stifled a yawn and said, “I’ve had better nights, we’ll just leave it at that. How about you? Did you even sleep?” she asked hoping she hadn’t kept him up all night.

She looked around at the now smoldering fire and to the place where Drakon’s bed roll had been. He’d gone whilst she slept, she knew it would happen and yet could not have been prepared enough for it. She cast her gaze down and sighed, “You are under no obligation to help me, you do know that right?” she asked softly, secretly hoping he would stay. Her bangs fell over her eyes covering her still sleep dazed eyes. She didn’t look back up at him as she awaited his answer her breathing slow and deep as to fight back emotions that flooded through her.
