Summer had come and gone. It had seemed so short to Jessica, there had been of course the regular sorts of things after coming home from Sunny California. She’d worked at a restaurant, waiting tables and earning tips, her manager said it wouldn’t be too hard on her, she was a pretty girl, tall and tan, with leanly muscled legs, high pert breasts and long red hair and a spray of freckles across her nose that she wished away every night.
And he’d been right, she’d definitely worked her ass off and had enough money to blow when she returned to school. Enough money that when her brother, Sam had told her that his best friend, very best friend Roger was going to be headed out to San Diego for a new job and needed someone to drive with him, Jessica had eagerly offered to help pay for gas if he’d take her too.
She’d known Roger since she was a kid, well, younger anyway. They were a few years older than Jessica herself, but since Sam had been responsible for her while their mother worked, so too was Roger. He was like an additional member of the family, another big brother.
So they were idling outside her house while she crammed her bags into the back, with his stuff. Her mother and Sam waving goodbye as she slid into his front seat of that very too sporty car with its top down. Jessica had almost decided to hop over the top, like people did in the movies, but feared the reaction she’d get from her driver.
The red head waited until they had pulled onto the freeway, before she truly got comfortable, stretching her legs out so that her feet rested where the windows would have been, letting the wind blow over her bare feet with pink nail polish, uncaring that it flipped and whipped her short skirt’s fabric in the breeze.
The girl reached over and pressed the power button on his radio, lulling her head to the side with a smile to stare at her friend, raising her hand to push against the shell of his ear and down his cheek with a laugh.
“Roger, you are going to love it out in San D. Maybe you’ll meet someone out there too…” Jess hinted with a knowing look, that dating prospects in southern California were amazing for the fun, fit and ready crowd.
