Anna Winters was sitting in the park, one of the few places in the city where there was any grass or trees. She was reading a book still in her work clothes, a simple black skirt and a light green blouse. This had been her routine almost everyday since she had moved here almost a year ago but tonight she had stayed much longer than normal. It was dark and she could barely see the words on the page with the dim light coming from a nearby street lamp but she wasn't ready to go home, back to an empty, lonely, little apartment.

Vladimir stood there in the Alley watching the unknown woman as she read. She really was very unaware of her surroundings. Three of his brethren were stalking her and they were closing in. The fact that they hand not noticed him yet was a testament to their weakness and to his strength. Plus, even vampire eyes would be hard pressed to noticed a tall, well muscled, very dark-skinned African American wearing an equally dark colored leather jacket standing inside an unlit alley.

They had finally gotten to within striking distance and he sighed as he stepped forward to intervene.

Anna could sense that someone was near her. She quickly looked up from her book and saw the men surrounding her. "I'm sorry... I was just going..." She said getting up and trying to walk past them "excuse me, I really need to get going..." She said clearly terrified. Why has she stayed so late... She felt like such and idiot. She had no idea what they wanted to her bust she knew it wasn't good.
