A long lonely hike

It was now the fourth day of her hiking journey. For three of the four days she was totally out on contact with civilization - she had seen no one on the trail, spoken to no one, been totally on her own. She knew that she was halfway to the next town, at least 35-40 more miles, but she didn't really care. It was so nice to spend her summer vacation away from her crazy family and friends. With August approaching she would have to go off to college and be normal, but for now she was alone.
Little did she know that she was not truly alone.....
 
John had been bored for days. His mountain cabin was isolated, which was how he liked it, but he often had nothing to do between hunting dinner and making moonshine. One day, he saw a sight that instantly aroused his curiosity; a lone woman out on the trail. He knew it was getting dark, and he could follow her pretty easily without being seen. He followed and watched as she set up camp for the evening.
