A mortal in the Band (Closed)

Well this was the last thing he expected, but he pushed himself up, marvelling at how soft and cool Eden's hand felt. He followed her as she led the way, he noticed more people as they walked, but his attention were mostly on Eden.

Mesmerizing, beautiful and talented. Was there anything more to ask from a woman like her? He smiled at his thoughts and followed her as she pushed outside. He breathed in the slightly fresher air and noticed she still held his hand, wasn't going to complain about that.

Together they headed down the roadway

The massive hairy mountain tried to protest till she glared at him before they made their way outside. She trusted that everything would be fine. This new band member being mortal might actually keep issues at bay not wishing to reveal their existence to him.

So... Where ya wanna go?

Glancing over she smiled to him seeing him for himself but the back of her mind saw someone entirely different from a completely different century.

"Well there is this music shop which is always open, only closed on Sundays. I always like to go there and look at the guitars. I haven't been there for some time and it isn't too far from here. I'd like to go there."

Let's go... Our new guitarist should have a new guitar.

She smiled to him as they walked along.

"Not sure if there will be a guitar that I'd want. To celebrate being in the band, I would have something that will celebrate along with me."

He smiled back at her

"But window shopping is always fun."

What do you mean? You would not want to begin a collection of guitars to commemorate different events like most guitarists out there.

She laughed a little.

Then what would a celebration of being in the band be for you?

"Heavens no, I don't like to have stuff standing around gathering dust. Got to live while I am alive and so everything should be in my life, well-used and cared for. But if I would get a new guitar, it will say Death Dancer when you look at it."

He shrugged, "How would I celebrate? Have a quiet drink or ten, good music and watch other people. It is how I usually do it and I find that I have grown to like it."

Well aren't you going to be entertaining on the road.

She smiled again stopping to look at him for a moment.

Everything really is so simple like that for you isn't it? Used to be like that... But that feels like it was centuries ago.

Her eyes go distant for a moment as she watches him.

He shrugged

"There is no real need to complicate things."

He gave her a smile, "That remark just makes you sound old. Come along it's not far anymore."

He pointed towards a flickering neon sign, "See? There it is."

Sometimes I feel pretty old. This life will do that to you then again sometimes you feel like a kid.

She looked to the sign and smiled.

Let's go.

"Let us hope I can be more kid than old soul. Otherwise I would not be able to run up to a shop, stop breathlessly and stare in complete fascination at guitars."

He grabbed her hand suddenly

"Come be a child with me."

And with that he took off, pulling her along for the few meters to the shop, where he stopped and cupped his hands to the window to stare inside.

She laughed and "ran" with him tempering her speed to still appear mortal.

Looking in the window with him she smiled.

Luna would love that dark green bass.

"And just look at that black fender with the dark orange flames, or that dark blue axe with the faded yellow spider web."

He chuckled and looked at her, was actually fun to stand there with a lovely woman and look through a window. It added a bit more to the experience, "Let's go inside. Sometimes Mr Jones actually lets me play on a guitar or two."

He pushed the door open for her, "Fun fact, his name is Casey Jones, just like the song by Grateful Dead."

She smiled and walked with him into the shop looking around.

Oh wow...

She began looking around at everything.

"It is quite fascinating isn't it."

He stayed close to her, checking out the various musical equipment when Mr Jones suddenly seemed to appear out of nowhere.

"Ah Mr Storm, you have brought company? Very good, very good."

Alex looked from Mr Jones to Eden, "I still want to know how you seem to just appear out of nowhere."

Mr Jones just grinned, "Trade secret young man. So who is this? Your new girlfriend? She is quite a popular face in music circles, oh yes indeed."

Alex blinked, "Mr Jones, this is Eden, she...uhm...wanted to take a walk along with me."

He is the new guitarist for the band. Good to see you again old friend.

Eden smiled and shook his hand.

He stared at the two of them

"You two know each other???"

Mr Jones gave him a sly wink

"Trade secret Mr Storm."

Despite himself, he had to smile about that reply.

His two favorite words to say ever.

She laughed and went wandering about.

He again looked after Eden and then at Mr Jones who was looking at him with the strangest look. "So Mr Storm, you still have that old fender that you so dearly love?"

He nodded, "Yes indeed, she is treating me quite well."

He sly smile, "How about trading her in for something new? I will make you a very good price."

He chuckled, "Thank you Mr Jones, but as long as what she keeps with me, I will keep with her."

The man chuckled, "Well look me up when she does give you grief. But there is a nice black fender over on the display, why don't you give us a nice Stairway to heaven hmm?"

"Of course!"

Feeling like a child at christmas morning, he walks over to the display where a high sheen black fender stood plugged in and ready

Taking a pick from the leather band around his arm, he slipped into the sling. Testing the strings, making certain they were tuned and like always they were perfect.

He smiled in delight and started to play, his fingers finding the chords without problem as he played through the song. He didn't notice that both Eden and Mr Jones were watching him. It was just him and the music.

Mr Jones slid over to Eden, "I see he is still human?"

Yes he is and before you say anything else I did not pick the mortal because of any remote resemblance to anyone so long gone.

Mr Jones favored her with a sly smile, "Oh I am sure that it was only his skill which caught your attention."

His black eyes flashed and with a grin he turned away, "Though one does wonder about the striking resemblance they have...curious that..."

He walks away and seem to shimmer before disappearing.

No...! She thought... I did chose him because he looked... So very much... Like him.

The song died away and he grinned, it was a beautiful instrument and he really liked playing it. The sound was sweet and powerful and the chords easy to play. It really was a great instrument.

He started to play one of the songs that he had learned the previous evening, he did not really remember the lyrics, that was Eden's part. He did not do the bass, so he could focus much more on his own work and it felt good to do just that.
