A New Beginning

Mathias Haber

I got back to the watch post a few moments later. When I did, the two sat there quietly, looking at the window. now, blood had touched its surface, leaving red blobs on the glass (or artificial glass substitute) surface.
"Well?" I asked, hardly more than whispering.
"They're sending Keering down," Bender replied.
"But he tried to..." I trailed off, pointing at the window.
Nikki looked down, helpless.
"I wonder if anyone can get out there... I know they aren't aware of me being here. What if I went down there, y'know, before you could stop me? I could have told you..."
The two were staring at me, as though looking at a fool. Perhaps they were.
"What?"
"Don't you wonder at all how that might end?" Nikki asked, pointig to the window herself now.
I sighed, not knowing what to do. I had the knowledge to operate the doors, and to work outside the vessel. I'd learned that much on our previous expedition. But I couldn't do both. If I decided to try, I would need help.
The only other person who cam eot mind was the blonde girl. I'd have to try and find her, and get this Hiller guy back inside before the captain and his friend could stop me.
"I'm still not back," i siad simply, and headed off, toward our personal quarters.
Wehn i reached them, I glanced iside the girl's cubicle. She was laying on her bed, either pouting or sulking. WHich one was irrelevant.
"Hey, blondie," I began. "You wanna tell me what just happened out there?"

OOC: Thanks for the opening, I had no clue what to write.

IC: I had no choice, I know I'm going to regret this but, it must be done. It must be done and thats all there is to it. Starting tomorrow I am dumping Keering. Yeah, if thinks don't get better I'm dumping Keering. Yep thats what I will do. If he doesn't agree to kill any one else, I am dumping Keering. Yes absolutely, if he doesn't give a good reason I am dumping Keering.

There was a sound at the door so I turned to see who it was. The man who kept talking about smoke appearing and used drinking water poked his head threw the door.

"Oh hello. I was, like hoping you'd stop by. I need your opinion on a matter of like, utmost importance. Do you, like think that, like," I stopped and he seemed puzzled. "That like...." His eyes stared there looking at me as if he had no clue where I was going and needed further investigation. They stared at me seeking to integrate me completely. I couldn't help to start to cry. "Keering is trying to dump me. Snnif" I wiped a few tear away from my now red puffy face. "He killed some one on our first date, just to not be with me. Sniff, Am I too fat!?"

Something detached itself from Hiller's hand and soared away into space just before Keering entered the Watch Post, hands clasped behind his back and face perfectly expressionless as though nothing had happened. He addressed Nikki and Bender.
"Where is your companion? The Captain tells me that you have sighted something out of the ordinary."

Bender and Nikki

Hiller let go of something, and whatever it was, it floated off into space. The two watched it go as Keering entered the room. He was a perfect soldier just then, standing at attention.
"Where is your companion? The Captain tells me that you have sighted something out of the ordinary."
Bender looked at Nikki, adjusted his glasses.
"Yeah, we saw you shoot Hiller outside. We would really have rather spoken with the captain..." Niki said, almost apoligetically. She lowered her head, looking away, half-expecting the man to strike her across the face.
Bender looked away as well, though not looking down. He fought the nervous urge to pick his nose.

The girl rambled on about something stupid. I just listened, unsurprised. She wiped her eye and said "He killed some one on our first date, just to not be with me. Sniff, Am I too fat!?"
A little in the hips maybe a voice in my head spoke up, the one that often got me into trouble on dates. I bit my tongue, almost needing to do so literally just to keep from saying the words. It was unfair really. The girl was nice-looking, not fat at all. She was also already upset, though I doubted her reasoning was accurate.
"No, you're not fat, listen, I need a favor, concerning this situation with you and your... boyfriend?"
I didn't wait for her to explain, might take hours for her to finish and cry three more times.
"Look, that guy he shot, he's still outside the ship, and he isn't doing so hot. So why don't we head down to the dock and go and get him. I can do the space walk deal, but I need someone to work the airlock controls. Can I count on you?"

Something very subtle changed in Keering's face for a moment, then he looked out the red-dotted window. He moved over to it.

"Will you please point out to me where you think I was standing? I have not been outside the ship today, but I would like to know what you think you saw all the same."

He looked over at the two again, still close to the window and completely expressionless. He blinked once, quickly.

There was a tiny flare of light hardly distinguishable from the backdrop of stars as whatever had propelled itself from Hiller's hand took off with gusto, dissapearing as quickly as it could be seen.

dude...Keering could pin the killing attempt on Quiet's chara depending on when Quiet's chara gets out to the front of the ship.

IC: "Airlocks, yeah I can work them." I hadn't payed much attention to the airlocks the first time trhew but with my background I could easily figure it out. I wonder if he thought I was an idiot? That could be it, he thought I was foolish because of my blonde hair. Well thats his own problem it so happens I die it this shade.

"I'm over him." I am so very over him. I wonder if he is thinking about me. Perhaps he is lonely. I feel lonely, I miss him.

Mathias Haber

"Glad to hear you're over the murdurer," I replied, leading the way to the air locks. "Which do you prefer? Going outside, or working the air lock?"

Bender and Nikki

"You know what we saw," Bender said, surprising nikki with his direct response, "But if you need a reminder..."
She looked to her, adjusted his glasses.
"You were standing behind Hiller as he waved to Nikki, or shortly after, with someone else, who sounded like that new blonde girl over the intercomm. Hiller didn't see you two, but we could and we saw the gun you shot him with. He screamed and you two disappeared."
Nikki waited for the man to turn around, unsure what to expect. Maybe they should have just pretended not to see anything, she thought, but she'd also considered the possibility that they'd witnessed something meant to be a test, a false scene meant to test whether or not they'd have the guts to report someone of authority.
It didn't feel right, but she needed something else to think besides she'd just witnessed an attempted murdur."

OOC: Um.. If Mathias goes outside, what does he see? You can PM it if you don't want to post it here.

IC: "Wait, I thought we like, decided already that I'd work the controls." You know not that this murder isn't important or anything, but maybe I should tell the captain about the plan the president was coned into signing, after all he is jsut about the only one who can stop it. No, no, we have some time.

I stood next to the controls. "I'll work these but before you put on the space suit, can you like tell me." I looked directly at him. "Why does used drinking water smell."

Alex:

IC: "You ever notice how, like these doors take forever to open." Just then the door started to open but abruptly stopped. I gazed at the opening which was no more then a foot across.

"Well, like you could squeeze threw right now. But with a space suit on;" I bent over starring at the track trying to solve the problem. "there is like, no chance."

I stood up and faced the man with the strange mind. Given his comments about smoke filled rooms, and drinking water that smelled bad, he clearly wasn't the brightest. "You like go put your suit on, or something. I'll handle this." I raised my hips and lowered my torso toward the ground do the artificial gravity it came to my attention I forgot to put a bra back on after coming back into the ship, not the most important thing, after all I still had to speak to the captain about the colony project.

"Well..." I trailed off. The used drinking water explanation would have to wait. I didn't want her distracted by any deep thoughts. Though I doubted they went very deep.
"Later." I ended.
When the door didn't open all the way, I looked at it, amazed. Between needing to rely on her to let me back inside, I had to contend with yet another odd set-back.
I reached down, slapping the door in frustration, then it slid the rest of the way open.
I looked to her and shrugged. Whatever works.
"Okay, I'll get suited up, then I need you to open the doors. Don't bother to close them again. I'll be coming right back inside with him."
I didn't wait for a response. The longer I waited, the less likely we'd be able to help the man once I got him back inside.
I got suited up and headed into the airlock. I stood for a moment, letting the airlock depressurize, then the doors leading outside opened.
I was pleased to see she knew how to work the switches afterall.
I was outside fairly quickly, not moving too fast, almost afraid to be caught in my own moving current and carried off somewhere. I moved quickly toward window, near where Hiller appeared to be crouched. He was holding his shoulder, where what appeared to be a grey rod stuck out into space. Globs of blood floated around, some heading off into space, others seeming to stay near him.
As I moved past the window, I could see the other guy looking out at me. his expression didn't suit me much, but I didn't tak eany more notice than I had to. i moved past it and grabbed Hiller by the other arm, hauling him up and dragging him quickly toward the airlock doors again. When I had in through, I motioned for the girl to close the doors and get the pressurization under way, hoping it wasn't too late to help the man.

Keering watched the man reenter the ship with Hiller in tow, then turned to the two in the room with him. "You're comrade is the only person who has been outside of the ship today, whatever you think may have happened."

Hiller stirred only slightly, eyes fluttering, as he was moved. He did not wake.

In the Captian's office an alarm was going off and he was recieving a transmission. It was static-y, but the sound was good. The screen in front of the Captain flickered slightly and showed a man who looked the same as Hiller. Behind him were three other men who looked like Hiller. The man in the forefront asked in dangerous tones, "What happened to my son?"

Alex

IC: I opened the air lock with no trouble. He entered the air lock body in tow. The door began to shut but stoped about half way threw. I couldn't do anything from inside. He'd have to solve this on on his own.

He let go of the body leting it drift in the lock, grabed both halves of the door and pulled them togeather helping them shut. "Okay I'll like, presurize the room now." I sat about my work.

Bender and Nikki

"You're comrade is the only person who has been outside of the ship today, whatever you think may have happened."
Bender looked to Nikki, who looked back, a little confused, but more frightened and surprised.
Bender made no reply, and Nikki, while her mouth hung open, prepared to speak, found no words.

As the chamber pressurized, I grabbed the man and held him in place, guiding him to the floor as the artificial gravity took hold. When the process was complete, I desuited quickly, keeping my eyes locked on his unconscious form as I did, then grabbed him again, realizing an extreme difference in his weight now as compared to outside, and hauled him out of the air lock.
When I had him in the clear, I turned to the blonde girl.
"He's got a pulse, but he's not responsive. We need to get him to the medical lab..."
