The soft pre-dawn light fills the tent and I awaken once again to the luxury of your arms wrapped possessively around me. I sigh contentedly. I definitely could get used to this, I think. I am amazed at your tenderness with me; the way you took such care with me after the training yesterday.
I marvel at the way you will in one hour treat me as your intellectual equal and demand I work and train as hard as any of your men, and then, as if a switch flips, you pull me into your arms to make sure my every need is met and every bruise and scrape is ministered to as if I am but a small child in your care.
While I could not have imagined what being with you would actually be like all those weeks I pined for you on the Tristan, I find the reality is far better than I could have ever dreamed. My Captain, my love, the man who makes my soul complete!
I knew in my heart from that first soul wrenching kiss in the starlight summer garden, that all I would ever want and need was my dear Captain, and everything which has transpired since that magical night has only reinforced this belief in my breast.
Eagerly, I welcome your morning caresses and carnal need. It matches mine own. And leaves me energized for the day. Walking hand in hand to the Nile I am astounded at the beauty of this strange land. I will be grateful to quit it, but in this moment, with my love by my side, the sheer beauty of the day is nearly overwhelming.
We bathe and kiss, talking companionably as if we have done this every morning for years. The warm river water swirling around our legs. The plan for the day, you tell me, is swimming.
“Swimming? Darling, my father taught me to swim when I was but a little girl, thus, I have never been afraid of the water,” I smile slightly, not wanting to brag.
“Ach, excellent – but do you know how to dive?” you query.
“Dive?” I look into your dark eyes, startled. “No, oh no, no, no, I have never…what do you mean – dive?” as I struggle to imagine what you will ask be asking me to do.
“Well, darling, my ship, the Constantine, the top deck, it is quite high up from the water. And I need you to be able to dive from the ship if necessary,” your eyes dance merrily at my discomfiture. “I promise I will keep you safe and make it fun for you.”
I look at you skeptically. Diving? I love the water, but I have been accustomed to wading into it, or sliding into it from shore as the waves break over my body.
Finally, I nod. Of course, I know you will keep me safe. I trust you. And if you say I must learn to dive, well, then, I must learn to dive. We finish our breakfast and Antoine appears as if from nowhere, pulling you aside to speak to you quietly.
Your brow furrows briefly and then clears as you realize I am watching you intently. Then, loud enough for me to hear, “I need you to set up a simple diving platform for m’lady. Can you make it so?”
“Ay sir, will be a simple task, will take but a few minutes.”
“Excellent,” you beam, “and I need one of the men to bring that trunk of baubles down from my quarters on the Lysandra.”
“Done and done,” as he turns heel and hails two other sailors to make haste with him to complete their Captain’s wishes.
Next you turn back to me. Capturing me ‘round the waist and pulling me close now all the men have been sent to various tasks. You kiss me deeply, taking my breath away. I will never tire of these kisses, as I melt into your arms, my worries about swimming and diving fall away from my consciousness.
You pick me up and twirl me ‘round and round until I am giggling and half dizzy. Your laughter fills my ears, hearty and rich and deep. I want to hear your laughter every day for the rest of my life. I swear I will do whatever I must to bring you happiness. To evoke that laughter. I squeeze you tightly as you set me down.
Reaching up onto my toes I wrap my arms ‘round your neck and meet your mouth with my lips.
