Present Day~ ~ ~
Lisa Kelly felt her heart sink the minute she heard her name being called over the loudspeaker. Once again, she was being summoned to the principal’s office, but not, as her classmates wrongfully assumed, because she had done something wrong. Gathering her belongings, the dark-haired teenager stood up from her desk and excused herself from the class, ignoring the chuckles and whispers that came from her friends. She wanted to scream and cry for help, but there was nothing she could do about it... no one she could turn to. Like all the other times before, Lisa found the secretary’s desk empty when she walked into the main office, and an Out To Lunch sign had been placed in front of her computer screen.
For the next half hour... they'd be alone.

The bus to school was late, as usual, but since classes had just started she knew her teachers wouldn’t mind. Lisa was an exceptional student; she was at the top of her class with an impeccable record, and somehow she managed to find enough time between studying and managing her social life to participate on various school sports. She’d been on the Varsity teams for volleyball and soccer since she was a freshman, and this year she had been asked to serve as the team captain. It was definitely a lot of work, but she felt honored and new the rewards were well worth the added stress.
Her younger brother Michael finally came bounding out of the house as the bus roared on down their street, coming to a full stop at their corner and throwing open its doors. With a warm smile, Lisa waved at the driver then took her usual seat about halfway down the aisle. She shrugged off her backpack and sat down, then watched the houses whirl by as the bus made its short trek back to the school. She was a senior now, and even though school had just started she was already thinking about college. She’d visited a couple with her parents the year before, but she still hadn’t made up her mind as to where she wanted to go.
She still had time to think. It was a pretty big decision, after all.
Not surprisingly, Lisa’s boyfriend hadn’t been much help in that department. When asked, he chose a politicians answer, leaving her right back at square one.
The bus pulled into the Mercy High School parking lot about ten minutes after picking up Lisa and her brother, and it crawled to a stop behind one of the other buses and then opened up its doors again, letting the students file out onto the sidewalk. Lisa joined a few of her friends that were waiting by the entrance, and off to the side were a few of their teachers, there either because they were just arriving themselves or were making sure that no stragglers were left behind.
