A Soldier's Love (closed)

I want to forget it all but... Way too many little reminders and nightmares.

She shifted to kiss his cheek part of her wanting to be close again but part of her terrified of being touched like that by anyone after her last nightmare.

"I totally understand." He smiled and kissed her cheek right back, then shifted his gaze down at his aroused crotch. "Down boy." He joked.

Maybe I should go over to the couch.

She bit her lip at his joke she hated feeling this scared even though it was in a way second nature.

"No, I'll go, you've been through hell." Jack got up and gave her a light kiss on the forehead.

She grabbed his shirt not wanting him to go but there was clear confusion in her eyes.

"Or I can stay, and just hold you." He offered with a smile, glad she had stopped him.

I... I don't know... I don't know what to do or think or anything right now I am just scared no matter anything.

"Then trust me, I've brought you this far, haven't i? I promise, I can take good care of you, Dani. Let me stay with you, I can help you through your fears."

Okay... Jack... I...

She just moved over for him to lay down.

Jack slipped back into bed and laid next to her silently for a moment, staring up at the ceiling before turning and looking deep into her eyes. "Hey, Dani. You know I love you, right?"

She nods looking to him but remains silent for the moment. She knows he has said it and that events are very different when he says it from Robert or Mike. That perhaps in a way scares her the most is his words and actions are the same and very very different and she truly does not know how to react to them.

"Just come, keep me warm..." he whispered, smiling, gently pulling her In to his arms.

She snuggled close but stared at her wrist. To anyone else the tiny scars from the barbed wire were nearly faded gone but to her eyes they were still brutal looking monstrosities. She touched each one around her left wrist then the right. Snuggling deep into his arms.

Everyone tells me they are nearly gone but I guess I will always see the harsh monstrous way they originally looked.

She pointed to her neck.

Even here the mirror just shows me how brutal it looked.

Jack looked at her faded scars and without a second thought, kissed them. "You're a survivor, I see them but they are fading. You didn't ask for any of that, just remember that." He gently traced the fading lines of her scars.

She just watched him she wanted to see them in a better faded appearance but she saw most all of her scars still rough brutal and new.

I know just wish I could see them as faded as everyone else.

She smiled at that.

I... I would like that. I just don't want my nightmares to mix you in with them again.

"Yeah, about that, I'm really sorry, I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I thought that if you felt my presence, maybe it would help you... I promise, I won't do it again. You mean too much to me." He stretched and yawned, exhaustion finally catching up with him. "Here, let me hold you, it will help me sleep. Knowing you're close."

She nodded and curled up in his arms and fell into a deep sleep. She knew he would not hurt her and the nightmare didn't make sense at all but it did put Robert in the back of her mind again.

In the morning, Jack slipped out of bed, leaving Dani to get some much needed rest and went to make them breakfast. He made beer batter pancakes and really had to scrounge for some canned fruit and ham. It was kind of a bachelor's breakfast, but it would have to do until he could go to the store. He brewed up some coffee last.

She slowly woke to the smell of the coffee. Then realizing that he was not in bed with her and called out a little fearful.

Jack

"Yes?! I'm out in the kitchen, Dani! Come on, get up, lazy bones, I made breakfast! Pancakes and ham, I think. Hehehe!"

She walked around to the kitchen.

Be nice not all of us have been in a life that had us up before dawn soldier.

She laughed a little her mind for now free from worries and fear. Moments like this she liked even though they were often short lived.

Jack slid across the hard wood floor in his socks to give Dani a quick hug. "I thought I was being nice, I didn't play the morning Reveille in your ear at six am, did i?" He teased. He pulled a seat out for her and got her a plate full of pancakes with a side of ham. There was syrup but no butter. "Yeah, I know, it's not the most appealing breakfast, but it's the best I could do with what's here. Hey, make up a list for me and I'll go shopping for us, okay?" He poured himself a cup of coffee and got a plate for himself too. "Coffee, Dani?"

Coffee would be great. So do you really think we are free from him?

She slowly began to eat pondering that.
