A thread about beautifully butch women

Shouldn't guys be able to identify "butch?" it seems like a -somewhat- objective thing to me.

How would you describe the style then?
It's a style WOMEN assume that communicates with other WOMEN.

Who gives a fuck what some random guy thinks is butch or not? We don't do it for him, mostly we do it in a world he doesn't even exist in.

Some men really hate that part.

It isn't particularly objective to men because there are nuances that some men, evidently, can't see, and therefore don't believe exist. Like being colorblind without ever knowing it. This guy for instance thinks that "butch" means "bigger tougher and uglier than the biggest male athletes."

He's wrong. And I see no need to explain any further. It isn't about men.

Interesting point, it is an internal communication in the world of women. I can relate to that, frame it as a similar phenomenon within my own gender.

Secondly, I don't think butch means "bigger, tougher and uglier..." (I assumed you were referring to me, "this guy")... maybe I should have phrased my characterization differently, using more delicate language to describe "butch" women. lol

Maybe this will help: "Butch" does not mean "Looks so much like a man men think she is one."

Sure there are some women that do look that manlike, but that's only an appearance that -- sometimes-- correctly identifies the woman as butch. And sure, butch women like to put on "masculine" elements, so they can be identified by the women they are interested in-- because yanno, that's what we got in this society.

But that's only one manifestation of the energy. in the OP, Phaidra has an aura of competence, self-reliance, physical strength and many of the other traits that many people consider "manly." Regardless of her bosom or the dimple in her cheek, those things are what make her "butch." She could be wearing a ballgown and she'd still be butch...

I wish that there was an emoticon for a round of applause because that is fantastically well written - punchy, to the point and (above all) unanswerable.

In the absence of that emoticon please accept this in it's place.

YES. Don't you just    Stella? I have SUCH a crush on her

gawrsh! Thanks guys!

I've spent years trying to work this out. And my conclusion is that men have no right to demand answers about lesbian society.

They can ask, and women can choose to answer if it pleases them-- it's that assumption thing that gets my hackles up.

Mmmmmmm! I do like it when you're strident!! ;)

Wow, that first one is great. Not just in terms of the model (but, I mean, damn ;) ) but the composition of the shot, too.

I accept it is something i do not understand. And it's none of my business anyway.
Fixed that for you. ;)

A fairly recent pic of myself and my fave coffee cup and my fave dog's butt.
