A Winter's Tale (closed)

"A bath sounds nice, thank you." Jill doubted that investigating the site would yield much, but she felt that she had to do something. For now, a bath sounded nice.

I excused myself and went to run the bath water. I added some lavender gel tabs to make the water bubble and smell nice. I lit some candles in the bathroom to create a relaxed atmosphere for my guest. Finally I sat out my soft plush bathrobe for her to put on after her bath. Then I went back to inform the beauty her bath was waiting for her. I escorted her to the bathroom and asked if she "needed anything else?"

Jill followed the man to the bathroom, and was surprised to see that he had prepared a bubble bath- she couldn't remember the last time she had had one. "No, this looks...very nice." Being taken care of and waited on was...strange. It felt nice, but it had been so long since she had felt anything like if that it just seemed odd. Jill climbed into the warm water, enjoying how it felt against her aching skin.

I returned to the bedroom to put down fresh sheets and covers for her while she relaxed in the bath. It felt good to have someone to take care of other than the animals. I let out a heavy sigh if only she would stay with me to chase away my loneliness.

Jill bathed, taking her time, knowing that there was no point in hurrying- she might as well regain as much strength as possible before returning to the site of the rift. With the bath finished, she put on the robe- noting how soft it was- and returned to her room to see James placing new sheets on her bed. "Thank you- the bath was lovely." She said, smiling at him.

My heart melted with her charming smile."I hope you feel a lot better after that." I replied giving her a warm smile in return. "Good news I heard the snowplow run by while you was bathing, perhaps we can get into town tomorrow and get you checked out at the hospital and do some shopping for you."

"Sounds good. I suppose there's no need to hurry back to the lake. Of there is something wrong, I want to be in good health to face it. Goodnight, James. You've been...very nice so far." Jill climbed into bed and watched him leave, drifting off to sleep and wondering if, somehow, she could stay here.

I bid her s"sweet dreams" and said "I would be outside on the couch if she needed anything during the night." Taking my place on the couch My thoughts were of the beautiful woman in my bed, and I was not. I had to chuckle about my luck and finally dozed off.

Jill slept fitfully- snatches of past missions, monsters, lightning, and darkness haunted her, and when she finally awoke she found she had overslept- the clock read 10:14 in the morning. She pulled herself out of bed, feeling slightly better, and called for James.

I heard her call from the kitchen as I prepared our breakfast. putting it on the tray I brought it to her with two hot cups of coffee. "Good morning I said cheerfully to the beauty. "How did you sleep?" I asked knowing she had tossed and turned in the night when I had gotten up to peak in to check on her.

"Well enough. I don't usually sleep that well. I've had some...experiences in the past. I suppose it's like PTSD." Jill fell silent and focused on the breakfast, which was delicious- James was a man of many talents. She decided to change the subject. "So, you mentioned going to town?"

"Yes" I replied sipping my coffee. I have to go feed the animals first, and I can take you by the lake when I head up there if you'd still like to go." I said already knowing the answer as I rose up to get my coat on and start the tractor.

"I think...I could wait on the lake. My legs still aren't up to it." Jill decided. "The shopping trip sounds good for now."

"Ok", I replied the horses have enough hay for the day, so we can go anytime". I turned and offered her my hand to help her to her feet.

Jill took his hand, smiling at his gentlemanly demeanor. She followed him out, wondering what shops they would visit. "Male sure to save the receipts- I don't have any money on me, but if you keep them I'll be able to repay you as soon as I get back to...wherever."

"Don't worry about paying me back, it's my gift to you. It is after all the holiday I said smiling warmly as I helped you with your coat. wait here while I go warm up the jeep in the garage." I said smiling warmly at you.

Jill waited as he warmed up the car, head spinning. He was handsome, kind...and what if she couldn't get back? No, she told herself, I can't focus on that. Just pay attention to the trip.

csrefully backing the auto out of the garage, I parked it next to the cleared path of the sidewalk. I got out leaving it run and walked over to the door to give her my arm to hold onto so she would not slip coming down off the porch. I walked to the car door and opened it for her making sure she got in safely. then walked to the driver side to take my place behind the wheel..

The amount James cared for her was obvious, and it felt strange. Strange but good. Jill had no idea why this stranger was being so nice. Was he just that nice? Something about him was...genuine. Open. Appealing. Jill made small talk as they drove to town, wondering again if she would ever return home- and if she wanted to.

I took her to the urgent care by the mall, where a good friend of mine was a nurse. She saw to her and examined the girl while I waited outside. I thought it best to leave out certain key details as to how she came to me only saying she had an accident in the snow. It wasn't lying, just the bare truth.... After getting checked out it was determined she had a nasty bump and bruises, and was given a script for pain meds. I then drove her to the mall."Are you up for walking in here? should I get a wheel chair to push you around in" I asked politely not wanting to offend her.

"No, I can walk. I just don't think I'm up to a hike. I think right now we should pick up some clothes." Jill couldn't remember the last time she had gone shopping. (My last post for the night. See you! This is really fun!)

I suggested to her upon arriving at the mall, that there was a victoria's secret and several other clothes shops.

"or maybe a hair salon, and get her nails done. This was a day for pampering her.
Hopefully it would ease the trama she had been through. We went to several boutiques and I had the pleasure of watching her model several outfits

Jill decided that since her current circumstances were so bizarre, she might as well spring for something extravagant. As she walked to the salon and stylist, she passed a fur salon and made a note to enter later. At the salon, she went through a full regimen of makeup and pampering, ending with her hair being put up in a high updo.

I watched as the stylist did their trades on this already beautiful woman. I had to smile to myself as I watched her face transform from concern and brooding to almost giddy and carefree. I thought I might of even heard her giggle a time or two.
