Vence had been talking to the quartermaster about what goods they'd acquired in port and where would be best to bring them when Tasha found him. Every man on the deck was staring at her. They may have just been in port, but a sailor's life was lonely and besides that many of them had been upset that she'd come on board in the first place. “Tasha,” Vence turned in surprise and grabbed her by the shoulders starting to escort her back to his cabin, “I'm so sorry to have left you there, but can we talk about this in private.” He pulled her back into his cabin and closed the door behind them. Once he knew they were alone he breathed a sigh of relief. “I meant to talk to you this morning, but I woke up late and didn't have time. We need to figure out some things.” Vence took a deep breath. Things had changed quickly and though it had been his goal he didn't know what to do, now that he had her back. “I don't know if we should try to be more, but I think we should at least pretend we're together, that way the crew won't be tempted to do anything ... unsavory. And I was thinking about you working. How would you feel about working in the kitchen. I just think the crew would be more acceptant of having you around if that's where you were working.” He hated having to think about things in these terms, but he more than one responsibility to think about now. This crew had become a family to him and as glad as he was to have Tasha back he needed to think about them too.
