The week was hectic for James. On one hand he wanted to drop everything and be with his sweet Emy all the time, even though he knew it would be inappropriate. On the other, her father, the general, was coming and would no doubt want to inspect the unit. It took a lot of effort to convince himself that work at the fort was getting him closer to Emy, closer to that wonderful day where they will enter the modest church of this little town and leave it together, as man and wife.
Eventually, it did pass, however, although James must have been under more stress during it than he was in the whole of last year here, that is with outlaws and indian raids counted! He was standing in that very church, watching with a blissful smile as General Carlson led out his beautiful daughter.
His eyes were fixed on hers, their two souls swimming in the sea of love, lost so much that that James barely heard what the priest was saying. Catching the end of his speech, nonetheless, James softly said: "I do." Smiling lovingly at his beloved bride.
