Advice for New(-ish) Authors

(by which I mean writing erotica can be lonely, make friends)
It is interesting on it's own, isn't it? Masturbation aside, we write about the erotica, where the interplay of two or more people is central. And we do it all alone. You could argue that most stories are like that, but erotica takes it to another level. Where is the chemistry of two or more people while writing?

Does it have to be alone?

Not at all. If anyone writes as a duet or as a gang-scribble, let me know!
Many people collab at different stages. I’ve co-written with both @Djmac1031 and @PennyThompson - PennyT just had a collab with @Actingup published.

I’ve reviewed chunks of stories as the author has written them (as opposed to the complete first draft) with multiple authors, which can mean you are more part of shaping the story.

Although I think the closest we ever came to a "gang scribble " was @PennyThompson and I both advising you on our individual characters in your LitCon Event story.

All the best advice has probably been given, but;

Don't write for the accolades, you won't receive them.

Don't write to be popular, you won't be.

Don't write to pander to your audience. They'll reject you.

And lastly, if you ignore everything else in this thread, at least listen to this advice:

WRITE PEOPLE, NOT PORN STARS.

You could write the sexiest sex scene in the history of sex scenes, but if your characters are flat, boring stereotypes with raging hormones and no personality, no one will give a shit.

Erotica readers want characters they can relate to and root for, so that when they finally fuck, we actually care and are rooting for them.

I've made more friends since joining here than I've made in my adult life anywhere.

And one of those friends... I still can't figure out how we actually became friends. It seemed like a series of accidental and not necessarily wanted connections and path crossing that eventually settled into "Well, I guess the universe is saying we should be friends since I can't seem to get away from you."

And those circumstances are actually the basis for a romance I'm writing because it's the kind of thing where people will say "That's not realistic! That many coincidences don't just happen like that to thrust people together." And I get to respond with "all of those really happened and a friendship grew from it despite our best efforts to irritate the fuck out of each other."

I like writing the improbable. It's fun.

Only one way to find out for sure. Put your hand on the table, I'll be right back with my hammer.
Years ago I gripped the edge of a pallet to flip it out of the way. Someone thought it would be funny to screw it into the floor. I snapped off two fingernails and rumor has it the echos of my long string of profanity can still be heard today. We never found out who did it most likely due to my promise of walking around with pliers until I found who it was and pulled out all their fingernails.

I just clenched my fists reading your post.

OUCH.

My 'adoptive' father is a former ghostwriter. Mary is @theWollstonecraftWoman here. Mary and I have a pen name that combines some of her and some of me. My father and I have written a few stories together, and he's contributed a bit to a few of mine, and I've done the same to some of his.
Some time back I found out the twisted AF author Michael Slade is actually three people. Father, daughter and son in law. You don't know where one ends and the other begins it all seems in the same style. Interesting thing about it to me is Ghoul features a twist ending where you find pout three killers were one person with three personalities, makes sense now.

No, we aren't.
We aren't talking about erotic stories, are we?
LOL, yeah, Pops and my writing is seamless, but Mum says I write better than my father. "I'm like, Um, no, Mum, no way." And Dad says, "Way." But I don't believe either of them.

This is Literotica. Some ghosters read her post and will continue to think her and her dad are writing porn together, based on personal experience, and you will not change their minds.

Sad but true.

If she had lied and said yes, she could have written literally anything for the T/I category and the ratings would have automatically been through the roof!
