Belle knew she was probably grinning like an idiot, but she didn't care. For one thing, it was the middle of the night, and she was the only one awake. For another, her heart was so light, she felt as if she could dance down the halls!

The dance had been magnificent. And to think that her new friend was the source of her new happiness. Belle shook her head in wonder as she approach the doors to the castle's library. Only days ago, she thought he was a monster, both literally and figuratively. He was crude and overbearing and rude and...

But that Beast was almost like a distant memory. The beast who had dance with her tonight was a gentle spirit, who shared her wonder in discovering the world of books, and the beauty of the castle grounds. And it was amazing that his great strength was couple with such gentleness. The way he so easily mover her, his great paw almost encircling her tiny waist. And there was something about the feel of the fur on his paw when he rested his hand on her shoulder, or cradled her face in his paw. The feeling was warm and soft and trusting and something unknown to Belle, even slightly forbidden, but still strangely delicious.

Belle shook the vestige of that feeling from her mind as she opened the doors of the library. Her library she thought, as she reflected on how her new friend had given her this library. Walking to the library's fireplace, Belle stoked the coals and placed a few pieces of wood on it. Brushing her hands on her blue and white jumper, Belle redid her simple ponytail in its pinkish-purple bow before she looked around the library, wondering where to begin.

Closing her eyes, Belle spun herself around twice then opened her eyes. She found herself pointing to a corner of the library she had yet to visit. With a giggle, Belle pushed a rollng ladder to the corner and began climbing it. As she looked at the books in the corner, she remembered her friend the Beast telling her that there were books from all corners of the world in the library. Belle could easily believe it! Some of the books in this corner had strange letterings and had binding of exotic hides. One in particular looked particularly inviting, with its silver lettering and embellishments. The book was rather large and was stuck in the shelf. Fortunately, it was near ground level. Climbing off the ladder, Belle pulled/wrestled the book out of the shelf, until it came out suddently, sending Belle sprawling onto the library floor. It was just at the moment the door to the library opened.

"Beast," Belle said with an embarassed smile, as she stood up and brushed herself off. "What are you doing here? I thought I had the castle all to myself this late at night!"

Beast could not stop the smiles. He still did not know what inspired him to attend a dance, much les shost one, but was he ever glad he did. He recognized Belle when he saw her. Everyone within a twently mile radius would recognize such beauty and grace. A generation is lucky if it produces just one woman with half her elegance and charm.

He did not remember what prompted the two of them to be dancing, but he would never forget the dance. She was a light, wispy extension of himself. He turned her and spinned her and held her in his arms. It was an odd contrast, but it felt like the small beauty had an invisible strength, and she could hold her own in him embrace.

He put his paws above his head and stretched. He often sat by the fire and read in this large velvy chair. The softness gripped him and he felt safe. He knew it was strange for a monster so large and forboding that everyone simply called him the Beast to ever feel unsafe, but he often did. Safety was a luxury he could not afford. It would only take one poor, superstitious farmer and one harvest too poor to feed his family for the entire village to surround his castle with torches and hate.

He finished stretching and stared at the fireplace. the flickering flames reminded him of his dance with Belle. He looked at the ceiling above. She would be asleep in her room by now. She would not have given much thought to their dance. He was the Beast; she was the Beuiauty. He was thankful anyway to have had those few minutes. They lightened a heavy heart.

He knew he was too excited to sleep, yet. He stood and rounded the hallway. Tall, bright marble columns marched across the expanse ahead of him. Beyonf the column two large, engraved doors marked the main entrance to his library. He was more proud of the contents of that one room than anything else in his entire castle or properties. People feared him and scared him. The books consolled him.

He never passed an opportunity to purchase any original text. Two years ago a trader from the far East sold him a copy of The Karm Sutra. He had said it was a book that helped teach how to find God's physical manifestation of love between a man and a woman. He knoew, of course, that had been a sales pitch, but he buight the book anyway.

He had placed it on a low shelf in the library, but he had never opened its covers. The whole idea of an unloved Beast reading about how to love seemed preposterous. Tonight was a different night, though. He wanted to sit by the fire and read a little about what the rest of the world seemed to know already. Maybe that book would explain a little about what he felt now when he closed his eyes and thought of that dance.

He was a few paces from the door when he heard the loud crash in the library. He bounded forward, and in two leaps threw the doors open like they werte paper. Belle was on the floor near the ladder with a book in her hand.

"Beast," Belle said with an embarassed smile, as she stood up and brushed herself off. "What are you doing here? I thought I had the castle all to myself this late at night!"

"I am sorry." He voice sounded more annoyed and growly that he had intended. "I did not know you were in here. I heard the crash." Normally, the annoyance would turn to mild anger rather easily. But Belle's big eyes and soft features cooled him. "I am unable to find rest as well. I thought maybe an author's words could be my lullaby."

"Well, we can through this book if you're interested," Belle said with a smile as she struggled with the weight of the great book. "Just look at the beautiful binding and the lettering on the book. And I think those are tiny jewels in the lettering. And look at the letters on the cover. I don't know what language that is, but it must be the most beautiful language in the world. I bet when people use it, it sounds like birds singing at sunrise," Belle gushed, as she stumbled toward the fireplace.

Beast stood silent and watched her cross the doorway in front of him. She ran her fingers along the cover of the book and continued toward the den as she talked. He so admired her simple confidence. It wasn't the same as the cocky snobness he expected to see in the land's most beautiful maiden. It was more a confidence that comes from full love and trust of everyone around her. That trust almost maid him envious; he had never really trusted anyone. He would have been envious if he had not been the one recieving that perfect trust at that moment.

As she passed him, Beast inhaled sharply. Her scent was heaven. It was like one of his servants had spent years reaping the scent of the most perfect roses, the most succulant melons, the cleanest morning dews, and sealed it with an exotic fruit from a utopia.

As he breathed her scent, he noticed the book she carried. It was The Karma Sutra. He looked back the the walls and shelves of books in the library. Out of the thousands of tomes in that room, she had randomly selected the same volumne he had come for.

"That text is from distant lands to the far East." He said in a near whisper. "I have not read it." He did not want to tell her he had come to the library for that same book. It seemed creepy to him.

He watched her walk a few paces in front of him. Her wispy frame swayed as she studied the cover. The cloth of her gown somehow caught in the still air and gripped her body to accent the curves on her slim body.

He twiddled the claws of his paws. He felt his tension growing. He would visit with Belle and enjoy her company until they could sleep. He just had to remember that he was the Beast. He had done a perfect job of reminding himself that no proper woman would ever appreciate any romantic advances he could offer; he had to especially remember that tonight.

"He told me the the book in your hands contains the secrets to obtain the physical manifestatoin of true love between a man and a woman." He spoke the word as monotonously as he could. He did not want her to think he was flirting.

"He told me the book in your hands contains the secrets to obtain the physical manifestation of true love between a man and a woman." The Beast spoke the word as monotonously as he could. He did not want her to think he was flirting.

"Really? How exciting!" Belle exclaimed innocently, as she hefted the book onto the fur throw rug in front of the fire. Patting the rug, she added, "Come sit by me, and we shall read it together!" Belle could hardly wait to see what tales the book held. If it was the physical manifestation of true love between a man and a woman, the book probably held tales of quests for true love, with knights breaking spells and defeating dragons and such. Belle only hoped that there were pictures to tell the tales, since the language on the cover was nothing like she had ever read.

As Belle opened the cover, she was greeted by a picture that surprised and delighted her. "Look, Beast that could be us!"

The first page of the book held a very stylized picture of a young woman who resembled Belle more than just a little, with a much larger man beast that could indeed by the Beast. The clothes they wore were foreign, even somewhat alien, and the trees and birds in the background were like none either Belle or Beast had ever seen. Yet for all their alien appearance, the two main characters on the front page could have been some Belle and Beast from a sylvan realm.

Undoubtedly the first page probably surprised the Beast, since it wasn't the Karma Sutra that he thought Belle had randomly selected. Indeed, there was a good chance that the Beast had never seen this particular tome before. There were a series of stories known collectively known as Tales of the Arabian Nights, some of which the great explorer Richard Burton had collected and translated for Western Readers. The tome in front of Belle was a story that had not been discovered and translated by Sir Burton, but would prove to be very interesting to Belle and her new friend. As the song went, there are tales as old as time, and it appeared that the story of the Beauty and the Beast had been told in other lands.

Belle ran her fingers over the page, marvelling at the embossed letters and the details of the drawing. Turning the page, she laughed as she saw a picture of the young woman and the man beast feeding birds and small animals, just like she and her friend had done the other day. Patting the space on the rug beside her, she said, "Beast, please come down here and let's see what adventures this Belle and Beast have!"

The Beast growled audibly when Belle fell to the rug. The him of her gown bounced of her firm thighs, revealing the shadow that held her modesty. The hem drifted back to her skim a little higher on her led than it had been when she had been standing. That body laying on the fur rug in his den was so small and delicate, like a flower petal on a ground covered in clover. He knew that Belle was sweet and delicate enough to need his protection, but he couldn't escape the feeling that he was the one that needed protection.

He blushed beneath the fur of his face. It must have been thoughts of doing things with Belle that made him assume she had the KarmaSutra text. He had purchased the Arabian Nights book from the same vendor, and the covers were similar only because he could read the words on neither. He knew thatost of the words were translated, but the cover was art, and a translation would have ruined it.

He sat slowly on the rug beside Belle. The fire cracked and sizzled as he sat, reflecting the same sizzling in his blood. Belle's scent surrounded him. He could not help but to breathe deeply as he lay his clawed paw atop the book near hers.

"Oh, yes," he purred. "I remember buying this. It contains many tales of heroism and fright from ancient desert days and nights.". He blushed and turned his head. He had not meant to Ryne like that. He knew he sounded silly. He blamed it on the rapturous scent filling his nostrils.

"Are you well, my friend," Belle asked innocently, looking up at her friend's face. It had turned red when he sat down beside her. Standing up for a moment, she felt her friend's forehead, and then his cheeks. "Must be just the proximity of the fire," Belle thought out loud, as she sat back down by the Beast, smoothing her dress out as she snuggled comfortably into her sitting friend.

Belle turned the page, and there was more unreadable script below another picture of this book's version of "Belle" and "Beast." As Belle turned the page again, one picture was replaced with another, each with Belle and Beast doing something around the fantasy castle the book's "Belle" and "Beast" were dwelling in. "Look, Beast, they're dancing, just like we were." Turning the page, Belle giggled. "And now it looks like they're getting ready to take a trip!" The picture showed "Belle" packing two large bags, while "Beast" pointed to a tower in the distance. "I wonder what treasures the distant tower holds?" Belle pondered out loud.

The anxiiety the Beast had felt evaporated when Belle snuggled into him. It was like all of his worries and fears were destroyed by the touch of this beautiful woman. He put an arm around Belle and pulled her closer.

"Who knows? It could be gems or gold." He tapped a claw of his free paw on the image of the tower. He continued in a whisper. "It might be guarded by a monster even bigger than me." He laughed at the absurdity.

"Tomorrow, remind me, and I will show you the Stone Erection. Er- I mean the tower." His accidental innuendo flustered him. "From the highest balcony in this castle, ig you look to the east, you can see the top of a distant tower at the horizon. I use to wonder what was there, but no one I asked had ever been to it or even knew how to get there."

He looked back to the book. "Maybe the beauty and the beast in this story know the way." He pulled her in tightly and sniffed the air around her head. "Turn the page. Let's see what happens next."

Belle was completely oblivious to the Beast's gaffe, but her imagination soared at the possibility of what that distant tower the Beast spoke of could hold. Perhaps it was no coincidence that she and her friend were reading about a tower right now. It was like Belle was part of one the adventures she was always reading about!

Belle returned the Beast's hug before breaking gently from the embrace. She was happy that her friend wasn't being as standoffish as he was when they first met. How odd, Belle reflected, those days were. Could it be such a change had come over the Beast in just a matter of a few weeks?

Shaking her head, Belle turned to the Beast and lightly tapped him on the nose. "I do think that there may be monsters bigger than you, but I know two things. The first, that you are no monster, and the second, if I were confronted by a monster that was four, or eight, or twenty times your size, if you were there protecting me, I would still feel as safe as I do now, right here by the fire, with my newest, dearest friend." Belle patted one of the paws of the Beast as she turned the page. The drawing on the next page made her giggle. "I'm sorry, Beast, but it is rather funny!"

The drawing on the page had "Beauty" mounted on "Beast" as if her were a horse, with the bags tied behind her. The next two pages showed Beauty riding Beast to the tower, followed by Beauty dismounting the Beast, and Beast producing a key to the tower.

"Too bad that we can't read the words below the picture," Belle said out loud. "I bet there's a story behind how Beast has a key to this tower. And they obviously came prepared." The next page showed Beast pulling a lantern from one of the bags and lighting it, before leading Belle into the tower. "Isn't this exciting?" Belle said with a smile to her friend. "I can't wait to see what they find in the tower!"

Beast roared with laughter. "Don't get any ideas, missy. I own a herd of horses that would be a much more atuned mode of transportation than this furry back." He laughed again.

He looked at the image of "Beauty"with the key. When Belle turned the page, he said, "Wait, turn back." He squinted at the key in her hand. the image of the key was far too small for any detail, but he could tell there was some kind of red crest or ruby at the head of the key. "Wow, Belle! Do you want to make this story even more interesting?"

He lept from the rug so fast that Belle nearly toppled over when her support vanished. He leaped to the hearth above the fire and stuck his paw in a large empty vase. He returned to Belle and opened his hand. "Look, I happen to own the key to the treasure." He smiled, so proud that he had a chance to add excitement to such a vibrant girl's night. The head of the key in his hand was emblazened with a auburn starburst.

"I found this in the cellar a few years ago. I could never find the lock it fit, but it looked like a key of import so I could never bring myself to throw it away." He pointed to the image of "Beauty" with the key. "It looks like it is meant for you." He dropped the key to her lap.

He sat agin, but this time he chose the large velvety chair. "Come sit with me here. This is my favorite seat in all the world." Beast could not stop grinning. "Hurry, I have to know what is in that tower."

Belle couldn't help but laugh at the excitement shown by her friend as he nearly knocked her over to retrieve the mysterious key from the vase.

Belle picked the key up from her lap and held it up in the firelight. "Wouldn't it be something, Beast," she said, "if this really opened the tower that you've told me about?"

Straightening her disheveled clothes from the Beast's sudden departure from the rug, Belle smiled at his offer. "Oh, please, Beast, come down here by the fire so we can read by the firelight. Look, we're even reading by the firelight in the book!"

Belle straightened out the pages to where the book had opened to. The Beast of the Book was getting a fire going in the fireplace, while the book's Beauty looked on, sititng on a rug not onlike the one Belle was sitting on in the library. "I wonder how they got there?" Belle mused, as she flipped back through the previous pages, returning to the page where the book's Beast had produced a key identical to the one Belle held in her hand.

Beast opened hiis mouth to protest and argue all the reasons why the book could be better read and enjoyed in the embrace of this, the most perfect of chairs, than on the rug covered marble of his den floor. But, when Belle showed him an image from later in the book that showed the "Beauty" and her Beast on a similar rug, covering a similar floor, near a simiilar fire, he knew all his arguments were moot. "If the book says I should be on the floor, I guess I need to be on the floor." He forced a smile, but a few low grumbles escaped his chest as he slid from his favorite seat to the floor behind Belle.

He pulled her back into his chest and looked down and over her at the book. "I am sure thay key really opens a long lost jewelry box of a long dead matron." Belle pursed her lips at his remark. Beast preferred when Belle smiled. "Or maybe it does open the door to that tower. Maybe the door is magically sealed, and only the bearer of that key may possibly enter." Beast felt Belles pulse quicken. "Right now, you are the princess. You are the most beautiful girl in the world and you are the only person alive that can enter the tower. You hold the keys to a lot of things, my... friend."

Beast inhaled deeply. "Come one, what are you waiting for. Let's see what the latern iilluminates."

"I think you should dance more often, my friend," Belle said with a laugh, patting her friend's arm before sliding out of his embrace and returning to the book. "It's made you so much sweeter!"

Making sure she stayed partially nestled against her friend, Belle returned to the page where the book's version of herself and her friend entered the tower. "I know it must be just a coincidence, but wouldn't it be wonderful if this key really and truly did open a tower full of...well, something wonderful!?"

Belle opened the book back to the page where 'Belle' and 'Beast' first entered the tower. "They must have been here before, Beast," Belle said, as she turned the page. "And look at all the beautiful flowers!" Indeed, the book's Beauty and Beast ascended a series of stairs decorated with the most strange and wondrous looking flowers. And it appeared in the pictures that the pair were comfortably joking and talking with each other. Finally, the pair entered the room with the fireplace. "They have a library of their own as well, Beast!" Belle said, patting Beast on his forearm as one of the pictures revealed a room with an amazing collection of tomes and artifacts. Finally Belle returned to the page where the 'Beast' prepared a fire while Belle looked on, sitting on the rug. When Belle turned the page, the book's Beast was settling in behind the book's Belle, as both watched the fire.

"I wonder if they're going to examine a treasure map by the firelight," Belle mused aloud, leaning back against her friend. "Or maybe they throw the key into the fire." Turning back to face her friend, Belle added, "I once read a story of a ring that had magic writing on it, that you could only read if the ring had been cast in the fire. Oh, I can't wait to discover what happens. Can you?" Belle asked Beast breathlessly, as she reached to turn the page.

"I wiill be glad to dance every time you wish it." Beast roared with laughter. "What mortal could ever decline a dance from the likes of you, my friend."

He drug his fangs against hiis lips as he stared down at the book. "You know, it is almost spooky how much the people in the book are like us. How much their whole world is like ours."

He brushed his hand through her hair as he thought. "You are right, though, they are comfortable there. Do you think it is the tower in the distance or do you think it is something else?"

The fire roared as a log broke. They both jumped when the sparks exploded up the chiimnet from the shatter burnt wood. "It is your key, dear. Do you want to put it in the fire?" He arched his furry brow. "Whether you do ot not, hurry about it. I cannot wait to see what becomed of our hero and heroine."

"I am glad we are friends, but you don't have to groom me, my friend," Belle laughed, brushing her friend's paw from her hair. Belle held Beast's great paw between her two hands for a moment, giving him a beatific smile, before turning back to the book. "Anyway, I won't toss the key into the fire unless my counterpart in the book does so. I shall let her actions be my guide in this matter, my friend, as you should let her friend in the book be yours."

Nestling back against her giant friend, Belle turned the page of the book. The next drawing made her eyes go wide. In the book, Beast was sititng behind his Beauty, with both looking at the fire. The Beast had extended a claw from either paw and, from behind, had carefully lifrted the straps of the jumper from the shoulders of the book's Beauty.

"I...I'm sure...well, let's...it could be..."

Not looking back at her friend, Belle turned the page, her hand trembling. In the next drawing, the Beast had pulled down the Beauty's jumper to her waist, leaving her in just her blouse and undershirt from the waist up.

He thought his chest would explode from the pounding of his heart as he looked at the image. Belle sat motionless, but he could smell her nerves... or was it just excitement. He raised his cpaws and extended his claws, then lowered them. His hands trembled. She just sat there... breathing.

She had said the book was their guide. They were to follow the instruction of the ancient authors. They could excape their decisions. They were faultless.

He raised his paws again. They no longer shook. He held his breath as his claws slipped beneath the straps of Belle's jumper. Slowly, he raised the straps, supporting the weight of the jumper with his arms. He pulled the straps out and down Belle's arms. An involuntary growl rumbled from his throat as he tucked his thumbs between Belle's blouse and the jumper. Slowly he pushed the jumper down all the way to her waist just as the Beast in the story had.

"We can stop if you want, Belle." He looked down Belle's body. With the jumper gone, he could see a little cleavave. There was a little shadow between her breasts at the top of the blouse. "You don't have to do any of this if you don't want to. It is just a book."

Belle stared straight forward, not even blinking, and not acknowledging the Beast's words. Instead, she tried to control her heart rate, which was beating so rapidly she was sure the Beast must be able to hear it. Belle's chest was rising and falling rapidly, and Belle was sure that must be drawing even more attention to her breasts.

Not sure what to do, Belle turned the page. The picture on the page made Belle feel as if her heart had leapt into her throat.

The Beast in the Book had leaned forward and and moved one of his great paws in front of Belle. The Beast extended a single claw and gently put it into the collar of the blouse of the book's Belle, drawing the blouse slightly outward. The next two pages had the Beast pulling slowly downward, breaking the thread on each of the buttons and sending them falling to the floor. The next page showed the blouse completely open, buttons gone, leaving the Belle in the book in her slightly translucent undershirt, the hint of her nipples visible. Just like my undershirt, Belle thought to herself, as she felt her nipples harden in anticipation. The next page showed Beast pull Belle's blouse off behind her, leaving the book's Belle in just her undershirt.

Beast's blood burned through his veins. His eyes widened with the turning of each page, when the pages stopped being turned and Belle sat frozen, Beast stared at the book's beauty seated in front of the book's beast. The thin undershirt barely held her modesty. Two circles on each breast were darker than the rest of the undershit, and the center of the circles were protuded. Her nipples, Beast whispered.

The testosterone heating his blood made him more brave. A claw from his right paw scratched lightly down Belle's neck toward the shadow at the center of the blouse that he had noticed earlier. The claw caught on the button, just as in the book. He forced the claw to continue, and the button snapped audibly. It flew off. He heard it land across the room, but he did not look toward it.

The shadow had grown. The rounded flesh at the top of Belle's breast was visible. Beast panted, but he did not pause. The claww continued downward. The second button popped, followed quickly by the third, fourth, fifth. Soon all the buttons were loose. Beast forced the blouse down and off of Belle.

He watched the translucent undershirt rise and fall with Belle's quick breathing, Belle's nipples were even more visible in person than they were in the book. He did not know if it was the chill or the excitement, but something caused the nipple to grow as he stared.

He felt a growth of his own similar to that of Belle's nipples. After the dance, he had been fighting so hard to prove to Belle that he was not the beast he appeared to be, but he was scared he would lose that battle soon.

This time he did not tell Belle she could stop. He did not tell Belle it was only a book. He did not tell Belle she could retire to her quarters. Instead, he brought the soft part of his thumb down the mound of her breast and over the nipple. He cuppes the undershirt covered breast and pinched the nipple with his tumb and finger. His next growl came as an order,...

"Turn the page."
