Alien Life On Mars?

Methane is the simplest organic compound known: one carbon atom surrounded by 4 Hydrogens:

It has been found floating all over the place in free space (like in the ice in comets) and is ubiquitous in the galaxy. It can be generated by any number of ways besides through the decomposition of organic life forms. Whenever you heat carbon in a reducing (oxygen-poor) atmosphere you produce tons of methane.

This is a false alarm.

I'll bet the mars landers brought at least one or two bacteria.

As VM pointed out, it's unlikely that Earth bacteria could survive the Martian conditions. Also, the amount of methane in in the tons. If it's Earth vacteris, they not only survived, but multiplied at an amazing rate. If they multiplied, what did they eat?

Or, at least there was until the bacteria ate them all.
No there was indiginous life on MArs until the alien bacteria from Earth ate them.

Going to Mars to hunt for alien life is like complaining about all of the Furriners in Paris who cain't speak english. :p
