All charges against Alec Baldwin dismissed.

???? Clarification of an indecipherable comment would be appreciated.

The only people who are genuinely checking every single weapon every single time are people who are either parnoid or being watched by someone who is. It is just so time consuming.

Apparently, you've never been around firearms much. The people who AREN'T checking every single weapon every single time are idiots or dead. I was taught when I picked up my first .22 rifle always...ALWAYS check the chamber as a matter of course.

The point is as the armorer dealing with a bunch of people who knew jack shit about weapons, and being responsible for gun safety on the set, it was her job to do just that, EVERY...SINGLE...TIME!

If your mechanic fails to put a nut on a tie rod and you kill someone with your car because your wheel goes sideways, whose fault is it? :)
Driver, tie rod manufacturer, car manufacturer, tire manufacturer, mechanic, the business that hired the mechanic, insurance company... but not the lawyer. They get special dispensation in the case–like fellow sharks not eating one another kind of thing. [No one is charging the DA staff, am I right?]

No, the actor doesn't, the producer does. They never should have charged him the way they did. It could have been anyone on that set that pulled the trigger. It just happened to be Baldwin. The prosecution screwed the pooch because they were looking for the conviction of a big name actor to burnish their reputation.

BUT, he should have been charged as the Producer. As the Producer he not only allowed the circumstances that caused it, but contributed to and setup those circumstances by his actions.

I thought the same, but then my understanding is that the production company settled, which shielded Baldwin from being charged as a producer.

As far as the gun goes, doesn’t look like the armorer didn’t do her job? I don’t know gun culture or protocol on sets, but I could see a signed chain of custody so that by the time the gun is in the actors hand it’s guaranteed to be safe so the actor needn’t even think about it. Or on gun heavy movies, such tight control in the armory that when guns leave the are 100% safe. Maybe there’s a movie person here who can weigh in.

That goes the other way around too. Not only to make sure a weapon is safe, but to make sure one is ready when you need it to be. No sense pointing one at an active threat is a round isn't ready.

I served in the military. People do not check every single time without getting laughed out of the room or at least getting a ton of rolled eyes. For obvious fucking reasons. I removed the magazine, cleared the chamber, handed it to you. You sat it on the table checked the serial number and handed back. But yeah I'm gonna make sure magic bullet didn't enter it. Cus that's a thing.

You served in the military? It can't be told by how ignorant you are about gun safety. I've seen "unloaded" weapons go off more than once. A family member got his fucking foot shot off by an "unloaded" hunting rifle. I don't care if I saw a person check the chamber just before they handed it to me, I'm going to do it again. Idiots who don't are ones that end up with a toe tag because they didn't double check.

But let's get back to the armorer. She was responsible for the gun safety on the set. She screwed her job up by allowing a pistol WITH LIVE AMMO to be handed to a person who trusted her judgment. Had she taken the time to open the ammo gate and check to see if it was empty the lady that got shot would still be alive. She followed your way and someone got killed. That should tell you how effective being stupid and arrogant is.

Aw, but he was the man in charge. He was the producer onsite. He also instigated the haranguing of a qualified union armorer until she quit, then insisted on hiring an unqualified non-union replacement

🙄

😳

Citations for ALL of that ^ please.

TIA

Honestly I would refuse to work with you. I was specifically an Amorer. If everybody in the chain checked every weapon we'd NEVER get anything done ever.

Bullshit. I spent 6 years in the Army and carried four MOS's: 45L20, 45K20, 41C20 and a 45B20. In case you aren't familiar with those, they are all third-echelon repair on (in order) Artillery, Tanks, Fire Control and SMALL ARMS. I was also a range NCO and taught classes on the M16A1, the M1911A1, the M60 machine gun, the M134 minigun, the M85 .50 cal and the M2 heavy barrel .50 cal. As an NCO in those jobs I would have fired your ass up if I caught you bypassing safety protocols. It's dumb asses like you that get people killed.

Just like that armorer got the lady killed by her neglect.

In the case of the Rust movie, it would have been a bit of overkill if Alec Baldwin had checked the gun again after the armorer cleared it and the AD declared it a cold gun as he handed it to Alec Baldwin.

Its a tragic shame that Baldwin didn’t check the gun again, but should he be held criminally liable??

Nah.

The armorer is a different matter. The AD is a different matter. And both were charged, prosecuted and punished.

Of course, the shady prosecutor and the cops just opened the door for some retroactive justice (?), so…

MOS's vary but Marine Corps 6541 is Aviation Ordinance Technician. I primarily worked with the XM-218 but had to handle a 9mm on a daily basis for security. Gods I'm happy I was a good shot and didn't have to bother with the range but twice. That shit was just an enormous waste of everybody's fucking time.
