Anne Rice signs petition to protest bullying of authors on Amazon

I agree with you yet plenty of awful writers bring huge egos and little skills to LIT. LIT is a high school filled with Al Bundy's desperate for healing humility so they can be truly better.

I was awful when I got here.

Four years later I can say I have improved to just plain bad.

Oh STOP!

Yes you went from awful to superior AND you have a good attitude that made your improvement swift.

Thank, for the compliment, but I have a long way to go.

And my attitude in general sucks, but I'm someone who's always looking to try to up my game and writing is no different.

You get bashed a lot here JB(and I know you like it) but I'll state right here publicly that you've been a huge help to me because unlike many here I am not sensitive and can handle being told "are you kidding" and use that as motivation to get better.

So thanks for lighting the fire under my ass.

Your improvement is entirely your own making, and no mob pulls your barge for you. I think youll go far.

Speaking of cranks, looking back I recall the cranky old bastards with fondness. Not the abusive assholes, but the Dutch uncles who cared but didn't fear my opinion of them or fear my improvement.

Ironically, when LC's posting was brought to my attention, I was busy helping a Lit. author get a story unrejected--the second time in two days. Wonder what LC was doing. ;)

In terms of trolling, wonder what Zeb was doing as well while I've been helping a Lit. author unreject a story. :D

My "not anything new" comment is being illustrated nicely.

I remember her discussing this. I subscribe to her page on Facebook. I think it's awful that groups of people will attack a well known author like that. Any attacks like this on anyone should be stopped. It definitely deters new authors from wanting to publish there.

Bullying goes both ways. As noted in the other Rice thread recently, AR is not above sending her fans out to harass people who disparage her books so I don't have a lot of sympathy for her on this one; if I were reviewing one of her books I would want to remain anonymous, and there are several other big-name celebs who are quite happy to pull similar stuff.

Plenty of other legit reasons for anonymity, from "I don't want my neighbours knowing I read erotica" to "I'd rather not out myself as a gay Russian/trans woman/etc". The "cure" she's advocating is worse than the problem.

Surely readers can see for themselves whether a review is anonymous, and decide for themselves how much trust to give it?

Yep, Rice is known for bullying. Nora Roberts does this occasionally on discussion forums too.

Unfortunately, discussion board readers aren't all very adept about weighing the sources of advice, though. That's one of the great fallacies of the Internet world--that everyone is equal in knowledge on a given topic just because they have equal access to posting on the Internet.

I wasn't bragging about helping others like a blowhard, that's for sure.

Translation: I can't stop reading LC's posts because I need to know everything he is saying.

Yeah, 'cuz you can't say pussy in a mainstream book about pussy.

I don't think that's it. I think that she feels like she has to up the ante with each sequel. The pussies were no longer novel after the first one. The third Beauty book had so much ass whipping and things being shoved in asses, I was bored by the end of chapter two. I never finished it. I'd rather read my own shit.

So she's an ass woman? Interesting.
