Blonde haired, blue eyed Melanie stepped into the huge house she had just recently inherited from her grandmother. Her grandmother lived in England and Melanie lived in the United States, to say the trip had been a long one would be an understatement. She wasn't even certain why she had inherited the place either. She rarely visited her grandmother any longer. The last time she had been in London England she had been 17 and her parents had brought her up for Christmas.

Now, she was 20 and a sophmore in college. It seemed extremely odd to inherit such an estate at such a young age. It truly did. She stepped into the house and looked around, it was old and dusty ....and old.

Melanie cringed at the sight of the dirt and grime. Shaking her head, she sighed and headed towards the bedroom where she had begun to unpack. After packing, she took a quick shower, put on a night gown and then walked back into the bedroom. It was hard to believe that not so long ago her grandmother had lived here.

She began pulling more of her clothes out and headed towards the walk in closet. However, what she saw after that would change her life forever.

It was the sweet summer breeze that caught Melanie's attention first. It whafted over her, from the back of the closet. There was a wooden pole between her and the rear of the closet, from which a row of her grandmother's cloths hung, obscuring her view.

Instead of solid darkness, shifting dapples of light could be seen behind that row of old cloths, as if some hidden door had swung open, leading to the outside... Only, this room was in the middle of the floor plan, not along any of the house's sides. Bird song could be heard from behind the cloths, flirting with Melanie's curiosity.

Mel felt like she had just stepped into a fairy book story or something. This couldn't have been real. It was way too..surreal to be real. She stepped out a little further and scanned the area. There were birds flying around. Whipping her head around, she saw the door of her closet slowly begin to become covered by vines. Her eyes widened with shock and fear.

"No.fucking.way." she whispered, slowly as she slowly turned around. Her blonde hair glistened in the sun as she walked a little further. This was not possible. There was no other world in her closet. That was not possible. Was there a white witch lurking around here somewhere too? she thought, cynically.

"And let me guess some guy with hooves is going to come out and try and trick me with..." she put on a faux british accent, "cookies and tea. I'M READY TO WAKE UP NOW!" She yelled to no one in particular.

An easy chuckle echoed through a nearby copse of tree's in response to Mel's shout, followed by a lilting tune played upon a woodwind instrument of some sort. At her feet the grass seemed to sway with the music as a a cool breeze picked up all about her. The gentle, soothing wind felt like hands passing lightly over Mel's skin, caressing her as a lover would.

The music grew nearer only to linger at the edge of the copse, a wordless invitation, meant to draw her in. "Let go, come hither, open to joy, be free." The music seemed to say.

"Let go, come hither, open to joy, be free."

These words echoed all around her. She looked back and forth, back and forth. "Oh okay, not talking hoof boys but talking grass...yay." She said, in a dead pan voice. She was ready to go home and if no fairy in a blue dress appeared and told her to clink her little red shoes and say something 'theres no place like home' three times.

She'd rip that door open.

Storming back through the grass, she walked toward the vine covered door and attempted to open it. She pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled until finally, the vines unraveled but instead of allowing Melanie to open the door she was thrown back to where she had been a few moments ago when the talking grass had been...talking to her.

"Okay, I get it. Someone drugged me. That's why I'm hallucinating and plants are talking to me and attacking me and I'm walking into a closet and appearing in forests. It all makes sense now..." she said sarcastically.

As Melanie was thrown back from the vine covered door the mysterious musician came out of the woods he'd been lingering in. He was hooved, just as she had predicted, but also naked, save for thick, tawnie thatches of hair upon his chest and groin as well as a long mein upon his head. Whiskers lined his jaw, comming to a downward point upon his chin. He reguarded Mel with curious, crystal blue eyes as he strode toward her, holding a flute in one hand while extending his other toward her in a gesture of greeting.

Melanie watched him, almost entranced just by staring into those crystal blue eyes of his. Melanie found herself thinking, he was actually rather handsome for a mythical creature. She was seriously starting to consider herself either a) mad or b) someone had drugged her. Things like this didn't happen in real life. They couldn't. Things like this only happened in Disney movies or in Hollywood.

She glanced at his flute which was in one hand and then stared at him suspiciously as he used his other to greet her. Maybe she was dreaming, maybe he had drugged her and the lower half of his body was a figment of her imagination?

No, with her luck even reality wouldn't be real. "W-who are you? Where am I? What the hell did you do to my closet and clothes?!" She yelled, glaring at the strangely formed creature. "AND TAKE THAT DAMNED COSTUME OFF!" She was already aggravated at being trapped in some forest inside her closet. She didn't need weird guys dressing up as weird creatures!

The woman seemed to gaze back at him with as much curiousity as he had been looking upon her with. She also seemed to be struggling with her thoughts as she finally reguarded him with a look of suspicion.

"I..." The hoved man stuck out his chest with pride as he placed his free hand upon it. "Am Piren, of Whitestone, and this is the world of Darmus. I have done nothing to your... Costume? I wear no costume... I find clothing to be... An inconvenience, and thus forego its use."

Melanie raised her eyebrow at the weird hairy man. If he was trying to get her to trust him; it wasn't working. He just got weirder and weirder by the moment. Not to mention, he talked really, really weird. It was like he was from the 1500's or something.

Which led her to her next question, ignoring the fact that he stated he wasn't wearing a costume. Maybe he was a role player of sorts?

"Okay, then...Piren right? What year is it now? Do you at least have the answer to that? " She crossed her arms against her chest.

"Oh, aye, pretty lass, it is the three hundred and fifty seventh year of the seventh age. At least that is what the scholars believe. But then, the dryads say it is much, much later than that. I am but a humble satyr, mind you, but I would put more stock in the dryads than any mortal scholar... Is... Something the matter pretty lass? You look taken aback by what I have said..." Piren said as he cautiously approached the woman. "Might I inquire YOUR name?"

Three...hundred...fifty....seven?! Where the hell had that stupid closet taken her? She visibly shook at the new information given to her. She was in a time that people spoke about in history books except they never mentioned....her gaze turned back to the...thing in front of her.

Ignoring his question she asked, "What exactly are you? Are you a man or....um not?"

"I am as much a man as you appear to be a woman... Can't you tell?" Piren paused only to give the woman a sly grin. "But, if such things matter to you, then you aught to know that the scholars call my kind satyr's, or faun's, if young. Pardon me, but you have yet to answer my question... Do you happen to have a name, or shall I simply continue to call you pretty lass?"

Melanie blushed at his comment about being a man. "No, I mean I know you're a....man. " Her blush became even deeper as she tried not to look at his...'proof'. "I meant are you considered human, not ya know literally a man..." She was stumbling over her words! Mel played with her hair nervously as he explained what he was.

Satyr.

Well, she definitely wasn't in the California anymore, let alone the United States. Just as Mel was going to ask him exactly where they were, he cut her off by asking her name again.

"Oh, it's Melanie. I prefer being called Mel though, it's much easier. Where are we anyways? "

Piren watched the woman, Mel, as she blushed and played with her hair, a roguish grin curling his lips. He drew closer to her as she spoke, asking where they were, until he was within arms length of her. "Mel A'ni... Mel. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Mel blinked a few times as he said her name like they were syllables. "Yeah, uh...it's nice to meet you too." Her gaze wavered from Piren's and looked around the forest. This was really weird and she wasn't sure if she'd be able to get past this oddness.

She looked back at Piren.

"Well, since I'm stuck here...is there any place I can stay? I'm guessing by the looks of it, Hilton hotels are out of the question, huh?"She said, trying to make light of the situation.

"I have never heard of a Hostel by that name, Mel, but if it would please you, I would gladly offer you a place in my humble dwelling. In fact, I was just about to return there to prepare a pot of stew, which I will share with you, if you are hungry." Piren hoisted a fist full of herbs and vegetables from a leather satchel he had left in the grass, where he had been foraging.
