80's new wave, postpunk, deathrock.....

Hai.. is anyone into 80s new wave, post punk, deathrock, goth music?? Talk to me!!!

What are you listening to right now?

I'm listening to this album currently, for the fifth (now sixth) time this evening & finding that I actually really like it. It's been on my computer for months & months & I'd assumed it would be terrible & had thus ignored it accordingly. I even saw it on vinyl for $8 (that's cheap in Australia where I am) & didn't buy it, then felt like a complete jerk since I was such a huge Bauhaus fan in highschool.

This album was released last year, and it's their first album* (*of new material) since 1983, that is, it's their first album* in my entire life.. haha

Anyone else heard it!? What do you think?
Or, what albums have you been listening to lately!?

c'mon, I need some validation here that Bauhaus is a perfectly decent topic of conversation, else I'll feel like a loser goth kid again. xxxxx

Other things I've been listening to lately:
  • Gang of Four
  • jesus & mary chain (b sides + rarities)
  • shakespeare's sister
  • XTC
  • gary numan
  • ....+many other things

oh, has anyone heard The Cure's new album? Is it gooood?? xxx

Been hanignng around the 80 rock and punk/alternative stations lately, nice mix of old and new!

I'm into goth/ sypmhonic metal. Kamelot, WT, LC, Nightwish, Epica, After Forever to name few. Close enogh? :D

haha, cool..
i just wanted to start a conversation up about ..you know.. more alternative music.
i'm guessing no one's heard the new bauhaus album then -_-

vineripe: i don't mind a bit of 80s rock/punk myself. what are your favourite bands?

& Miss S: do you ever take yourself out to the clubs? i used to go to goth clubs all the time & ove rthe past few years i've noticed that they've started to play more electro kind of music as opposed to the kinds of bands you mentioned.

I dig the jesus and mary chain. how about my bloody valentine?

I wouldn't say I am or was a goth... but I'm an old fart and remember Bauhaus when they first came out, and I used to follow them closely. Saw them in concert a few times.

I love Lagartija Nick, Passion of Lovers, A kick in the eye, Spirit etc. I also love Theatre of Hate, Spear of Destiny, Alien Sex Fiend, Gang of Four, Cure and Gary Numan. Shakespeare's Sister are OK, but certainly not Goth, and neither are XTC, who are fab.

You have good taste in music. Makes a change here as Yanks are usually rooted in 1975-type bland middle of the road dross. :p

wooo!! i am seeing gary numan next month. how exciting!
yeah! alien sex fiend! i had sex with a guy who used to work for them. gross!
but they're pretty mad.

i LOVE spirit by bauhaus! i've been listening to that song over and over for the past week or so. *sigh* so romantic. you should find their new album & listen. it's not bad.

& yeah, shakespeare's sister aren't goth. but siobhan is such a goth, and very hot. you know she covered 'she's lost control' by joy division for agent provocateur? how cool is that. it sounds really good too. i think the filmclip has dita in it, anal raping a george bush look-alike. lol

I've never listened to MBV, but sure.. what other bands are you into?
my tastes are all over the place, but i think that's good. or perhaps it reflects my moods, which are also all over the place.

I'm really liking jesus and mary chain atm because theyre so mellow, minimlist, kind of grinding, and their lyrics a just a little bit dirty. i love that.

what's the best concert you've ever been to??

I wouldn't call myself a "goth" but my tastes run to the gothic: David Lynch, Tom Waits. My best concert? Either the Pixies (reunion tour) or the Cramps.

woooo!! The Cramps!? That must've been fucking brilliant!!

i don't call myself a goth either.. I just associate Bauhaus with miserable goths..

I've seen the Pixies too. That was mad. I'd lost all my friends, and had been dancing with some shirtless guy.. ew
& I was on a lot of drugs, shh, and it was fantastic. the show, that is. As encores they did Gigantic, and Lala Love you. SO MUCH LOVE!

I also like Tom Waits + David Lynch.
I decided I might watch Twin Peaks through again, while I've got some free time. I miss that show.

Yeah, I've got the new Cure album... it's a bit middle of the road - not their worst but certainly no Disintegration or Boys Don't Cry.

As for other music... I got into Placebo pretty heavily for a while - still listen on and off. Love David Bowie, dip in and out of The Doors, getting into Faker a lot (by now you should have picked up that I'm not just talking about goth here), got a bit of a Killers, Ting Tings and Ladyhawke crush going on at the moment but suspect it will be short lived, Smashing Pumpikins, New Order, Rat Cat, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen and Cidy Lauper... how long have you got?

hello you ^-^

haha, i realised after i made this that once you start throwing the term 'goth' around people pull this face o_0 & start to back off. but i think it's kinda funny..
we have a really similar taste in music, thought i'm pretty sure that faker, the killers, and the ting tings SUCK. i haven't heard ladyhawke. have you heard grafton primary's remix of faker? it's pretty rad. grafton primary have a really mad sound going on and their shows are so fun and energetic. they singer works down the road from me in a cafe. so handsome!!

so i'm guessing you saw leonard cohen last week? dreamy! gosh! his voice has changed so much, but he's still brilliant hey.

if you're into electro, poppy, girly stuff (which i think you might be! and i am, so whatever) you should definitely check out The Sounds, MIA, CSS, Santogold, Uffie, Amanda Blank. i dont know.

or my band. it's probably the best of all..

Ok, sound now I've gotta ask what the name of your band is - so what is it?

As for Grafton Primary - I'm pretty sure that's the most damage anyone could do to a Faker song - I saw Faker live a couple of years back - just by mistake really - and was so impressed with the on stage energy - Ting Tings have a great song called 'We Walk' - at least check that out somewhere - and I didn't even mention Radiohead and Muse - both in my top 5. MIA's good. What about Souxsie and the Banshees - you know Robert Smith did a stint with them. And the Cocteau Twins for some more great female vocals. What about Sisters of Mercy if you want to go down that goth path?

What was the name of your band again and where can I hear you?

Yeah! Siouxsie.. she's great. I hear she's making a comeback. She actually looks really good at the moment. I also like The Creatures, & The Glove, which was a side project by Robert Smith and Steve Severin. It's a bit strange, but very arty.
Yes to Cocteau Twins, I love them.. "shoegaze" hehe. Do you like All About Eve? They're similar.
& SISTERS! They're def one of my favourite bands of all time. Such jerks! But they're brilliant.

& no way I'm telling you my band! but I'll put you on the door when we're heaps famous & playing in melbourne, yeah?

oh, & i think the remix they did was cool. they have a really unique sound and it translated pretty well. i mean, it just sounds like a grafton primary song. they're getting a lot of radio play these days. good for them

would not say I was a goth chick
but i did like the band you mentioned
i reject most labels anyway,,,,,mostly i am prolly just a bitch,,lol

no, nor would i. i find labelling, "pigeon-holing" (tehee), so passe. i just assumed the internet wouldn't. if i had to, i'd label myself a pervert. ^-^

I can't say I'm goth, per se. I'm more into Industrial music than the goth music. Wümp Scüt, VNV Nation, Apoptygma Bezerk and such. Although I cannot deny I do enjoy some goth music, Wolfsheim, The Cure, etc.

Mostly, though, do you just dress the part? Or do you live the lifestyle. Too many kinder-goths and neo-goths have ruined the scene. Too many have taken what was once a relatively underground scene and made it fairly mainstream...much like the punk movement in the 70's.

Anyways...whichever you are, it's good to see someone else on here who likes similar music.

Oh yeah...and Lords of Acid give one hell of a stage show...if you know who they are, then you know what I mean.

Woahhh I love Lords of Acid!! I'd like to see em live. I've seen VNV Nation and Apop live. I don't like Apop a lot at the moment though.. I got so sick of them, now I think they're a bit lame.
::Wumpscut:: + Wolfsheim are pretty mad though. ^^

I don't dress up anymore. I used to, when I was younger, but it's so pretentious. I dress kinda simple now.. black dress n docs. At least I don't get jerks yelling at me on the street when I dress like this. If I'm going out I'll put a bit more effort in, but I'm starting to feel too oooold! (I'm 22).

I don't really consider myself a goth. I just listen to a lot of goth music, but my tastes are really varied. In terms of the lifestyle... I'm probably not living it, haha. but I'm living a pretty mad life. I do a lot of things now, that I used to be too afraid or embarrassed of doing when I was a little goth kid. (like midnight nudie swims! best part of summer)

& yes. It's nice to know there are people around with similar taste in music + whatnot. ^o^

Living where I do, I rarely get people yelling obscenities at me. But, the stares are always there. I can't really say I live the lifestyle, either. Black slacks, black button-down shirt and boots of some form. But going out for regular things, it's usually just black slacks and a tee-shirt.

I do know a lot of people who live the lifestyle...it's their choice. I feel it takes too much effort to dress to the nines for simple grocery shopping. But, to each their own.
