Yup, to add on. Becareful of the F1.8D. Check if your body can suit the D version if not you are stuck with manual focus forever!

Good point - I forgot they brought out another version last year!

I checked on the D 90. It does not have a full frame processor. The equivalency factor is 1.5 which would lengthen the focal length of your 50mm to a 75mm. Still a little short for my liking, but certainly better than a 50mm.

I was going to upload several shots from my press days but I have to resize everything. Too much trouble.
 
I am sure we can find some samples from the web.

It is weird that the reviews all say 50mm makes a good length for a portrait. I do own one myself and I feel that the focal length is a bit restricted but the image and bokeh quality does make up for this flaw
 
Thank you all for the information. I am looking to buy the Nikkor AF-S 50mm 1:1.8G which is auto focus. Hope indoor candid pics come out nice.

I am tempted to do some research on 35mm and 85mm as suggested.
