Uncle Tupelo was an 'alt-country' (whatever that is) band in the early 90s. The broke up and the founding members formed Wilco and Sunvolt, with Sunvolt taking a hiatus and Jay Farrar doing several solo albums.
For fans of alt-country music, Tupelo is considered a founding member of the new wave of alt-country.
