Thanks to everyone for being so supportive. I've just spent three hours searching for both vacancies and training courses. None of the local colleges offers the one I need, the closest are both 20 miles away. It looks like it's going to have to be an online one with an uncertain level of tutor support. I'll keep you updated.

I've found it as a three day pop-up just 5 miles from my parents, starting next Monday. They'll want a subject and I have two up my sleeve (just in case); professional certification for the rôle I've just been forced out of after 30 years, or functional skills (Maths, English & IT) for those without basic qualifications.
