AOC, the misinformed Marxist Democrat, shows up at the Munich Security Conference and manages to string together an impressive tour of historical and geopolitical confusion, from placing Venezuela “below the equator,” to fumbling basic questions about Taiwan, to struggling to identify major shifts in U.S. foreign policy. But perhaps most jarring was her claim that Mexico introduced horses into the United States, a statement that ignores the well-established fact that horses were reintroduced to the Americas by Spanish explorers in the early 1500s, most notably Hernán Cortés, long before Mexico was a country. One would hope that, before lecturing on culture and history in an international forum, a public official might review the facts typically covered in a middle school textbook. When representing the United States abroad, remedial history lessons should not be necessary. If contrast were measured in volts, the distance between her blunders and the brilliance of Marco Rubio’s speech would have lit the room.
