I ask, because I'm a member of a discussion forum that specifically disallows this, and I do not want to jeopardize my membership by breaking any rules. I created this particular identity to post stories of and explore a particular kink, and nothing more. However, it would be fun to be able to post stories that do not involve that kink, but if I do so, I would rather post them under a different identity. So, is this kosher?

Considering the number of alts and trolls on here, I'd say yes. Depending on where you post, as opposed to type of story submitted, it may not be appreciated though.

you can, although as ww said, people do this deliberately to be general jackholes and the practice is generally viewed dimly, outside of stuff like RPs and the like.

but how would anyone ever know?

Honestly it is usually found out because sooner or later you will be involved in a thread about something, you will log out come back in under an "alt" and then forget and post a reply as if your the other you! People also notice alts if they flatter there own stories or defend themselves in threads.
An alt isn't terrible if you want it to either write different stories under, you know maybe you wrote hardcore BDSM but have a couple of gay male stories up your sleeve and don;t want your readers to know it's you. I think many people use them to say maybe surf the personals and say some things the other "you" doesn;t want to be accountable for. Alts are also created by authors to vote for themselves in contests and for awards. If you are doing it to just go "places" you'd rather keep secret they are fine it's when they are used for cheating or mucking up shit that they are frowned upon.

Literotica software physically allows members to create more than one username, and since there was no notice prohibiting the creation multiple usernames when you signed up the first time, I would have to assume that Literotica has no rule against it.

If you want to be sure, I would suggest reading the Literotica "Terms of Service". If there is a rule against multiple usernames, it would be posted there.

A former HT regular created an alt for posting. Her stories were getting one-bombs and trollish comments and she thought it had something to do with her comments on the boards. She ended up going back to her original username, however.

If I were going to submit stories to Lit, I'd create an alt for exactly this reason.

i'm certain it doesnt matter. Too hard to enforce with all the couples on lit.

I have to admit that I really don't understand why someone would want to have multiple user names unless you are trying to hide something or be playing some kind of games with other members or friends or relatives of the person. Who cares if you post some stories about a particular kink and other stories of different natures?

There are people here who have had several user names because they couldn't get back into their old ones, their personalities had changed or sometimes both.
