#Art or Porn

My two cents in "art versus porn" is that it can be difficult to tell, many times. There is a lengthy history of the male gaze making use of the female body for its objectifying purposes. The famous "Venus of Urbino," for instance, is viewed as a bride preparing for her marriage, or a courtesan or mistress, staring quite frankly at her lover. The hand placed upon her mons, while feigning modesty, merely serves to emphasize her sexual aspect.

Such themes return to us over and over throughout the history of art. We glorify the naked female body, but one sometimes wonders how many of these sainted compositions were really just wank fodder. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Tune in next time for my discussion of horny rococo paintings. ;)
