I LOATHE Paypal and would rather mail wheelbarrows of money than deal with them.
Now, you might want to check out these guys:
https://www.dwolla.com/
I have heard really good things about them and apparently they are gunning for Paypal. Yay!
I'm going to be researching them quite thoroughly as a committee I'm on may use them on our website next year.
I've been hearing about dwolla.
And another possible web payment gateway: https://stripe.com/ (which seems to be a Wells Fargo service, or else use Wells Fargo to service it's users, I don't know which, so if you have an aversion to WF you should know that)
The thing that burns my ass is that every time, I get an email saying PayPal has "randomly" flagged my account for verification. Randomly. Uh-huh.
Accounts being frozen for no reason is the usual complaint, at least for the people I know of.
I tried to set up a Paypal account about five years ago, for a fundraising venture.
It was so confusing, I gave up. And I am relatively web literate.
Dood... you just blew it. There are undercover PayPal operatives everywhere, and as soon as one of them reads that you've "never, ever had a problem of any kind," and that "[you]'ve also used it to make charitable donations on multiple occasions without any hassle whatsoever," they're going to be all over you like white on rice, blocking your account because you have too many letters in your name, freezing it because you had too many - or too few - transactions in an 11-day period, or because you made a charitable donation through a black-market "Donate" button. I feel so sorry for you...One of the reasons why I asked is that I set up a PayPal account several years ago as a payment alternative for my ebooks and I've never, ever had a problem of any kind. I've also used it to make charitable donations on multiple occasions without any hassle whatsoever. Perhaps I've just been lucky.
