Hundreds of door-to-door salespeople for Comcast Corp. who walk neighborhoods and troll apartment complexes to pitch its telecom and TV services were called into company offices about two weeks before Christmas and fired, according to an employee and Comcast documents reviewed by the Inquirer, Daily News, and Philly.com.

The Florida employee asked not to be identified because he signed a nondisclosure agreement as part of a severance package.

Managers, supervisors, and direct sales people in Chicago, Florida, and other parts of Comcast’s Central region, mostly in the Midwest and Southeastern United States, were terminated around Dec. 15, according to the documents that listed the number of employees who were terminated and kept in particular job categories.

More than 500 sales employees were terminated, company sources said.
Merry Christmas! That tax cut is so winning!

When AT&T Inc. announced it would hand out holiday bonuses to 200,000 workers thanks to Congress' recent tax overhaul, the company's statement failed to mention a separate, yet notable, personnel matter: Many employees will be getting laid off in the coming weeks.

AT&T is eliminating thousands of jobs across the U.S., including 30 in Central Indiana, according to Communications Workers of America, the union that represents AT&T employees. The company is cutting nearly 12 percent of its technicians who install U-verse and DirectTV in the Indianapolis area, according to union figures.

AT&T responded to questions about the layoffs with a statement touting recent hiring. The company declined to confirm the number of job cuts.
SO MUCH WINNING!!!

INDIANAPOLIS — A new round of layoffs is taking effect this week at the Carrier Corp. factory in Indianapolis a little more than a year after President Donald Trump touted a deal that staved off the plant’s closure and saved some of its jobs.

About 215 people are being let go starting Thursday, leaving about 1,100 workers at the plant, according to the company. That’s down from the some 1,600 factory, office and engineering jobs at the facility when Carrier announced plans in early 2016 to move production to Mexico.

This week’s previously announced layoffs follow about 340 job cuts at the factory in July.

While many companies are using President Trump's tax cuts to give workers bonuses or raise wages, the maker of Kleenex and Huggies is doing the opposite.

Kimberly-Clark announced on Tuesday that it would cut between 5,000 and 5,500 jobs, or roughly 12 or 13% of the company's employees.

The personal care product company also announced plans to shut down 10 manufacturing facilities. The restructuring program is estimated to save Kimberly-Clark $500 to $550 million by the end of 2021.

"You hope that the businesses and industries in town are just humming along and everything's going great and so when you get kind of a little gut check when you find out there's gonna be layoffs and then you find out the sheer number of 200 people, that's almost is half the workforce there," said Brad Randolph, Mayor of Fort Madison.

On Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 the company announced its laying off 202 employees.

According to a company spokesperson, "business volume at this location through the 2018 fiscal year does not support the existing workforce level."

"The ripple effect from losing 200 jobs when you talk about employment taxes, and just those moneys that come back into the community, it's a big deal and something we need to focus on and pay attention to," said Randolph.

Starbucks said Wednesday it will increase wages and enact other perks for more than 150,000 U.S. employees as a direct result of recent tax reform, joining other corporations in rewarding workers.

The Seattle-based coffee chain is giving all of its U.S.-based hourly and salaried workers an unspecified raise in April, in addition to a wage increase already dispersed earlier in the Starbucks’ fiscal year, which began last October. Starbucks says it is investing roughly $120 million in the wage increases.

Exxon Mobil to invest $50 billion in US over 5 years, citing tax reform

Exxon Mobil on Monday said it plans to invest $50 billion in the United States over the next five years, saying its decision is partly due to corporate tax cuts.

The investment will go towards increasing production in the Permian basin in western Texas and eastern New Mexico.

Exxon announced $20 billion in spending for U.S. Gulf Coast manufacturing in March.

TAX REFORM IS being sold as an overhaul designed to create jobs. It’s in the name, even: the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

But business executives say the bill will drive them to invest in automation, the type that will allow them to cut jobs in the future.

The issue at hand is a provision of the bill that allows full and immediate depreciation of capital spending. This change will allow most capital expenditures, such as investments in machines and building upgrades, to be written off against profits in the first year.

The change, set to last for five years, is far more generous to corporations than current law, which allows businesses to write off the costs of new equipment gradually over years.

Best Buy Giving Bonuses Because Of Corporate Tax Cuts

Crumbs. Has anything like this happened under any Democratic president, millions getting benefits directly attributable to actions? Answer: no.

CITING TAX REFORM, Altria will give its employees $3000 bonuses.

Crumbs. Mere crumbs.

If you want to see economic growth- forget jobs, wages, and bonuses. . .give the money to people to stay home. A dollar spent by government has this magical, intrinsic property known as "the multiplier effect." (Oohhh, ahhhh!)

Money earned by the proletariat is ultimately meaningless in our modern economy.
