Karmen's face registered shock, then displeasure at the fact that I was expecting her to walk totally nude in public, even though it was very dark, and there was practically no possibility of anyone seeing her but me. Still, although she wasn't happy, she sighed, then started out of the car.
She started to dash toward the front door, but I grabbed her arm so she couldn't dart out ahead of me. There was little sense in her getting to the door first, anyhow, it was locked, and I was the one with the key, and there was no shelter to be had from potential prying eyes, so she'd only be standing on perfect display, her dark skin against the cream coloring of the house.
I held Karmen's hand while I carried her bags, keeping her toward the street. There was little need to walk quickly, so I took my time, and it was a fair walk to the front door from the driveway.
Finally, we stood at the door, and Karmen kept an eye on the street for any spectators to her exposure.
"Calm down. You're not doing yourself any favors," I told her as I pushed the key into the lock while I punched in the code that would disarm the alarm system. "No one's going to see you, and even if they do, all they're going to see is a silhouette." I then opened the door, but strategically placed myself smack in the center of the doorway.
Turning to Karmen, I said, "Welcome to your new home."
