Baby monitor for peace of mind?

And when the time comes to baby-proof you'll have fun crawling around to get a baby-eye view. :) And putting those baby-proof (and dog proof) catches on cabinets is pain in the butt.

Yes - clean forgot about that! - baby monitor -- and if you have more than a couple of kids close together - it helps for a lot reasons :) heheheh

And childproofing - egads made it adult proof too LOLOLOL....

I must be weird. The only "child proofing" I did with my first was to get a baby gate across the kitchen doorway - then she couldn't get into the kitchen, or the cat food, or fall down the concrete back steps.
By the time the next one came along we'd moved, but the baby gate went across the kitchen doorway again.
And we didn't have it up for the last one - or the toddler couldn't get out to the bathroom as required. All I did was put all the nasty stuff in the cupboard under the sink and wrap a couple of rubber bands around the door handles.

Oh, and I did sell the glass topped coffee table before number 1 was born.

Most of the things I wanted to say have already been said.

Every baby store and book will tell you exactly what is useful but my suggestion is not to buy anything until after the baby is born. That way as things go along you will get what you need because you need it.

A crib, of playpen, or bassinet is great. My baby slept for two months in his car seat cause he wouldn't sleep laying down.

Read up on child safety because ALOT of the baby gadgets are unsafe. Bumper pads and things that help babies sit up in bathtubs are all very unsafe.

If you have a baby shower be warned that if you tell people the sex of the baby you will get ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT of baby clothes that might not be as useful as say diapers and wipes.

If you have to buy a play pen, buy the traveller one. It takes up much less room than the regular ones and usually they are only in it for short periods of time so you dont need a huge one-unless you are having twins!

I would suggest stocking up on the stuff you use everyday, bathwash, diapers, formula/liners if you are pumping even babyfood. If you are out grocery shopping now and see a sale, check the dates- most cases they last about a year, as you get farther along you could pick up a few starter jars, baby cereals etc.

If you get a baby monitor, get something like a clock that ticks for the baby's room. If you don't you will constantly get up to check to see if the monitor is working. If you can hear the ticking in the room (sounds like momma's heart beat) you won't need to.

Something else I just thought of, a mobile that sticks to the wall or hangs from the end of the bed and to put over top of the change table. Keeps them busy when you are changing them. Even a mirror at the change table is good too.

I absolutely loved the books on tape that come with the story book- Disney has tons of them. Pop them in the tape player everytime they go to sleep and they will be use to sleeping with noise. As they get older, you can give them the books to look at to follow along with the story.

A mess laundry bag- specially if you have to do laundry at a laundry mat. All baby's socks, tiny undershirts-(not onesies), and maybe t-shirts could go in this to be washed. Saves buying socks every other week or finding them in the feet of the sleepers when you cant understand what the lump is when their feet wont fit in. I almost always put socks on my babies at night, with undershirts or onesies then their sleepers. My feet are always cold so I didnt want to take a chance that theirs were too.

Everyone mentioned stuff for baby but what about mom?
- One of those stress head/eye pads, the ones that go in the freezer or microwave oven to heat up.
- Lotions-what every makes you feel good.
- Nipple cream if you are nursing
- Pads, pads and More Pads!!! As aweful as it sounds you may need lots of them.
- If you are nursing, it wouldn't hurt to invest in a mattress pad. Something with a water proof barrier backing. You turn over and accidently squish the girls you could have puddles before you know it. If you dream a naught dream, you could have puddles, if baby cries, you could have puddles-get one!
- Nursing pads for your bra, I made my own. Terry cloth face cloths cut into 4 and sewn into squares- you can usually find them in a bunch of 12 for $3-5. Make a bunch to have on hand.
- Good nursing bras. Make sure you try them on in the store, and try to do them up and un-do them with one hand. If this works the bra is for you!
- A few good novels. These are to read when you are nursing or having a hard time getting baby to settle at night.
- Low watt light for baby's room. When you go in at night to change and feed him or her, you wont blind the baby and yourself by turning on the over head light.

Cant think of anything more right now, but if I do, Ill let you know.
