I used to, up until about 26 or 27 years ago. it has gotten steadily worse for me. I envy those that enjoy the holidays. ah the days of Christmas past

I find every year to be harder to enjoy. I go through the motions for the family though. Part of it for me is that the past couple of years I've had to work more because there's a big rush to get as much off the books as possible before the start of the new year. This year it will mean a lot of late nights and even some weekends since I'm taking some time off to visit family in California but still have to get the hours in.

But I keep telling myself it's worth it to see the joy it brings to those I love who still believe in the spirit of Christmas (and Santa).

I only dislike their natural tendency to to expand. First a day, then a three-day weekend, a four-day weekend, a shopping season that has to begin before the previous holiday as if to co-opt and assimilate it. Maybe we should kick off Easter on July 1.

The XMas season starts around Hallowe'en. Thanksgiving starts a couple weeks earlier. Hallowe'en starts a couple weeks after Labor Day, which starts on 5 July. Memorial Day starts just after Easter, which starts right after Presidents' Day, which starts just after Superbowel Weekend, which starts after New Year's, which started on Pearl Harbor Day.

And so it goes.

I've generally enjoyed the holiday seasons in past, but this year is quite a bit different from any other. Going to be a rough one.

I should rephrase that.. IS proving to be a rough one, and just going to get worse.

I love the Holidays, but like you, cringe at the buying. My husband and I decided a few years ago to really limit it. We just get each other a gift or two and that is it. We get gifts for a few close friends and family but try to keep it simple. It makes it much easier to actually enjoy the holidays when you don't have to worry about all the shopping or worrying about others over spending. We told our families that they didn't need to get us anything as well.

I love the decorations and festivals, all the food. Love the movies as well! It drives some people nuts that I listen to Christmas music all the time too! LOL. But it takes me back to childhood memories that I love. People need to just try to relax more.

But for Halloween you can dress up as whatever you want. I think most families and churches would frown on slutty kitten, slutty witch, or whatever variation of costume “adults” turn slutty now at Halloween.

I enjoy it with the munchkins from picking out a tree at the tree farm to Christmas morning. If we didn't have munchkins, it would be volunteering at the shelter serving food like we did premunchkins.
