BDSM capitalizations: annoying or respectful?

Thank you Lauren for the link. I think I get the basics now. It's lowercase for the submissive (me), uppercase for the dominant (You) and a slash when both are meant (W/we), right?

Something similar to this is a phemnomena that I've recently discovered, that apparently is practiced by some people: Genderless pronouns. They don't use He, She, His, Her, but something else, something gender neutral. I don't remember the exact words, but I can tell you this. It made chatting with them a real pain in the rear-end...

it's a strange, strange world we live in, where people not only bend over backwards personality-wise in search of a sexual identity, but also feel the need to push the language and semantics envelope in doing so.

I'm not going to be judgemental about it. Let everyone do whatever they want to. But I don't think I'll ever understand it.

Sad part is I still know how to do it.

Seems a might silly, making a D/s into a symbiote. Not much point in dominating/being submissive to yourself is there?
You know, I'll bet there's a parts of you that you wish were a little bit easier to, ahem, dominate. I've never met a guy in total control of the little freeloader.

We girls haven't got much better control, I can tell you. But at least that doesn't have to embarrass us in public. :D

Thank you, Rhine-hombre. I did see Maths' thread and felt honored to be included, especially along with Svenska. Along with your AV of me on your alter-ego's shoulders, I'm growing an ego.

If I want to be an ass about it (and here we go), I could even say that that makes them the elitists, instead of me. ;)

/Ice - can't even dominate my plants

Ice, this is exactly why I LOVE discussing things on the AH - 'Cause y'all never fail to come up with stuff that I haven't thought about before. You're right of course, although I'd argue that it's exclusionary, rather than elitist. Maybe they *are* writing for a very select group of people.

And Lin's right as well, it is a strange world .. Go speak to Etoile, I think she's a found of information on genderless pronouns, or at least the Spivak ones that she uses.

No, I don't understand it, and it does make the stories a pain in the ass to read, but I'm not going to decry anyone over it.

Raph, in Mr Tolerant mood today! Whee, love and flowers all round... Or something Now, where did I leave that M-16?

No need for further education on the matter I think. I'll talk the way I talk and let others have their way.

They play mind games and talk strange, works for them.
I talk straight and fuck, works for me.

Thank you, that is all.

Now Ice and I are gonna go and disgrace a Pizza Hut with our presence. See y'all later!

Not Here

100% of my contributions to the literary tar pits are in the BDSM category and I NEVER use the UPPER/lower capitalizations. To me it is an affectation and nothing more. And a very distracting one, at that.

I think I see it used most often by those who adhere to the Gorean branch of the D/s world. There - that "D/s" is as far as I go. That is pretty universal, but not when referring to individuals.

I think those people don't go far enough. When they refer to their master they should use a 20-point bold font in royal blue that blinks on and off. Maybe even include a bit of audio. A trumpet fanfare would be appropriate, and would considerably enhance our reading enjoyment.

With floral edging and many naked women groping it.

Huge blinking letters, flowers and naked women caressing his name, huh? You may not realize that you just described to a T the website of someone I know. :) She has conversations with her "Master" on public forums, too, which I find in even poorer taste--or would, if I didn't know for a fact that her relationship with him is largely a figment of her imagination. (I read IP addresses. They can be illuminating on all sorts of levels.)
