Behind Enemy Lines

Joe

That night I left the convent armed with a map, a compass and the name of a contact in the French Underground that could get me back - Mme Nicole LaFontaine. I tried to put the memory of anna behind me, but just the thought of her caused a stirring in my loins. It was unclear exactly how to contact her. All I knew was to check in a nearby villiage at the local Bistro. After walking all night I reached the villiage at dawn. I decided to sleep in the nearby woods and wait until nightfall.... I walked into the dimly lit Bistro and looked around for a friendly face that I thought I could trust.

OOC: Any ladies up for rescuing Joe? Doesn't have to be Nicole LaFontain.

Her heart raced as she watched Colonel Thor draw his weapon and proceed into the forest.

She watched the command post to make sure she wasn't being observed and began to follow him at a discreet distance. He had just entered a clearing and she hastened to catch up to him.

Stepping on a branch, he whirled at the sound, his gun trained on her. Her heart leapt to her throat and she involuntarily raised her hands in front of her as if to ward off an attack.

"Please, Herr Colonel, it is I, Monique."

Colonel Thor

After I gave orders to the Feldwebel (as we say in German, "befehl ist befehl," orders are orders) I walked, with only a vague purpose, into the woods. I heard a crack of a twig and whirled, gun in hand.......

"Please, Herr Colonel, it is I, Monique." I holstered my Luger and stared, like a callow youth, at Monique. Her mouth was puffy and blood flecked where I had struck her. Since she had been taken back to her farm a few short hours ago, I was puzzled....and pleased at the same time.

In my careful English I asked,

"What has happened, Monique? Why have you come back to the wood - the danger is very great."

He had stowed his weapon and was looking at me strangely. My heart leapt to my chest as I gazed into his eyes.

"What has happened, Monique? Why have you come back to the wood - the danger is very great."

I looked around fearfully, expecting at any moment for the French underground to open fire.

I approached him hesitantly.

"It is Tessa, my daughter. She has not returned home."

As I neared him, I put my hand to his chest, plainly feeling the strong heartbeat beneath.

"She is my baby. Please, return her to me."

My eyes filled with tears and I began to tremble.

"I will do anything you ask, just please do not hurt her."

Colonel Thor

"Stay here...I will send out a search party and be back shortly."

I walked the few metres to my encampment and ordered a party to look for a young French girl. Under no circumstances were they to harm her. I intimidated that she had information valuable to the Reich.

I spun on my heel and walked back to where I had left Monique....trying to figure how this mess - the war - might eventually end and........... I stopped that line of thought. There was no future for a German SS Colonel and a French farm wife.....

She stayed where she had encountered him, watching until he was out of sight. Her hands flew to her face in anguish and she fell to her knees. She cried quietly, slowly managing to calm herself.

She became aware of his presence as he watched her. She looked up, his attraction to her making itself again known. She lifted her hand towards him.

"Thor" she uttered, her eyes gazing into his, her lips slightly parted. She wanted him, despite the dangers.
