Kimberly's long blonde hair blew in the breeze as she walked slowly towards the door. Her normal swagger had been replaced by a timid shuffle of her short, lean legs. She could feel the butterflies in the pit of her stomach as she approached the door, which seemed bigger to her than it actually was. Her mind was swimming and playing tricks on her. She couldn't believe she was doing this. She couldn't believe that she had been so careless and put herself in this position. She hated that she had fucked up and hated even more where she had to go as a last resort for help.
It all started so harmlessly. Her boyfriend, Chris, was cleaning off his desk and she was helping him shred some of the stuff. "Hey Kim, keep your eyes open for a white envelope with my brother's name on it. It has our UFC tickets in it," he said nonchalantly. He had been talking about going to the fights since he got the tickets. When he described the envelope, her heart sunk. She knew immediately that she had put the envelope through the shredder just a few moments before. She got very quiet. She thought about confessing, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She would think of something, even though hope seemed slim and she knew the event had long since sold out.
When she found out who the one person that might be able to help her was, she felt sick to her stomach. He had been a friend, well, a friend of some of her friends, but they hadn't spoken in a month. It hadn't been that long, and the emotions from that painful night were still raw. A night that had begun as a good time drinking together with him and his girlfriend took an unfortunate turn when he tried to get Kim into a three way with them. She freaked out and laid into both of them like she had never done to anyone before. She was appalled, disgusted and furious. She made it quite obvious she had no intention of ever seeing or talking to him again, but here she was, walking up to his door in a pair of khaki pants and a navy blue sweater. She knew he had some extra tickets that he was looking to sell them. She just needed to make a competitive offer and be on her way. It was just business. Her money was as good as anyone else's, right? She had convinced herself of that earlier, but with each step towards his door, she was less sure.
She took a deep breath as she stood in front of the door. She could see her slender hand trembling as it reached forward to ring the doorbell. The thought of having to see his perverted, smug face and hear the condescending tone he always carried in his voice was already boiling her blood. "It's just business," she told herself. "Buy the tickets for Chris and be done with it." The sound of the doorbell echoed in her ears, then she stood and waited, not entirely sure she even wanted him to open the door.
