Beyond Time (closed)

'Well, I do have spare time. Especially when Ashien gets focused on his horses." Dylan said with a small laugh. "I could do everyone. It would give me the chance to sit and get to know you too."

"Y'might not want t'get t'know us too well. Us Ghis men have a habit o' charming ladies. Wouldn' want t'steal you from my own little brother. Durban definitely will."

"I hate to say it, but I love Ashien too much to go off with one of his brothers." Dylan murmured. "As stubborn and infuriating as he can be sometimes, I do love him."

"Welcome t'the Ghis family," Boar chuckled at her comment. "Ma an' Julia'll tell you best, us boys get into all th'trouble an' our wives 'ave t'come save our sorry hides."

"I haven't had to rescue him just yet. Perhaps in time he will show a reckless side. Our biggest argument has come with how much he works." Dylan said as she turned towards Boar. "He wouldn't have come here if it weren't for the war."

"He would 'ave come spring. Much as 'e works, Ma means too much to 'im and we've nearly lost 'er too many times t'stay away too long. She's been sick since I was little. Ash an' Kayla 'ave never seen 'er healthy except when Vincenzo's around. Even I don' remember th'days she was full o' energy. Only our older siblings do."

"What illness does she have?" Dylan asked with a slight frown on her features. "She seemed healthy enough when she came to visit Ash, even if she was a little frail."

"We don' know. Some kind o' wasting disease. She's alright most o' the time now with Vincenzo around because 'e can treat it, but 'er Da had it too. It didn't kill 'im, thanks t'some good healers an' Gran takin' care of 'im, an' it looks like Ma'll be okay too, if a little fragile. Stress is just as bad for 'er as any bad fever 'r cold, so we try t'go easy on 'er and she keeps around people she loves."

"She's a lovely lady. She's already planned my second wedding, it seems." Dylan said with a soft laugh. "She said that it was a sort of family tradition at this point."

"It's lookin' tha' way. She wanted t'do one fer Selena too, but Selena's not 'avin' it. At least no' yet. I think she's waitin' t'set down new roots before she does tha'."

"Ash and I haven't even been married a year yet. Perhaps it's best to get it out of the way early. Besides, Van will be coming to Inverness soon. I know that Ashien will want him there." Dylan murmured as Boar talked about his stubborn sister.

"Van's really still workin' at th'manor? Would've expected 'im t'go back t'Venice by now, honestly. Never thought 'e'd like it up 'ere."

"I've never known a time when Van didn't work at Darkwood. It's been that way since I was a child." Dylan said with a shrug of her shoulders. "He goes back home to see his mother occasionally, but he seems to enjoy his time with Ashien."

"Van's only been in th'isles fer a few years," Boar murmured, raising a curious and somewhat concerned eyebrow at her.

Dylan went suddenly quiet as she thought about what she had just said to Boar. As calmly as she possibly could, she turned her dark eyes out towards the water and let out a soft breath.

"It's been a long few weeks, Boar. My tired memory is all jumbled up." She said with a slight shrug of her shoulders.

"Huh. Alright then," Boar let it go. If she was even half as tired as he was, he could understand even a slip up as strange as that.

"So, tell me about this little lass of yours." Dylan murmured after a long silence, looking at Boar with a smile as she tried to steer the conversation towards Boar's newest child. "From what I hear, she is a beauty."

"Mos' beautiful thing I've ever seen since Emma." The smile on Boar's face told her he believed that with ever fiber of his being. "Whenever I'm around 'er, Em can't 'ardly separate us."

"Seems to be a theme among the Ghis. Show them a pretty girl and they are inseparable." Dylan said with a small laugh. "She's small enough I could draw here. Maybe something to keep close to your heart?"

"Y'don't 'ave t'do tha' fer me, love. Ye've got a lot on yer plate with Ash," Boar said with a smile.

"Y'couldn' 'ave picked a better man, y'know. Ash is different from most Ghis before 'im because 'e's so much like Ma. He doesn' 'ave a temper like us. One o' the most patient men I ever met, because 'e learned from Ma an' how patient she was with us, especially with Da."

"Don't let him fool you. He has a jealous streak when he wants." Dylan said with a soft laugh. "But he is the kindest, most selfless person that I've ever met. He completes a large part of what was missing in my life."

"Jealous maybe. But tha's a Ghis trait through an' through. Still calm as can be. Even out in th'field, he was rock-steady until 'e got hurt, according t'his men." Boar's gaze turned to her. "He'll be th'man y'need him t'be again if yer patient with 'im."

"He's stuck with me, no matter what." Dylan promised Boar with a small laugh. "The melancholy will go away in time. The dreams should get less tragic. I will love him through it all."
