Completed my hardest climb yet in Telluride. 7 miles of which last 3 miles of straight climbing. 1,222 ft of climbing with only 397 ft descent for those 7 miles. Finishing off at elevation of 9,600 ft. I am used to flat riding where I live. So this is quite a feat for me. Leg strength was better than expected due to my gym work. My lungs took a beating with the altitude though. Tomorrow is another good climb - Colorado National Monument. :D

Way to go! That's a good day even for people used to climbing. It always takes my lungs a few days to get used to Colorado's altitudes.

Epic ride today doing the Colorado National Monument loop: 33.79 miles with 2,474 ft of climbing and 2,486 ft descent topping off at an elevation of 6,600 ft. Not bad considering I live and ride a very flat terrain.

Impressive part is that it felt like a gremlin was ripping his way out of my uterus the entire ride. I am superwoman! Fuck Mother Nature.

Congrats!!!

Just discovered this thread today and absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!

Somewhere on my non-sexual bucket-list is 'cycling the entire Route 66 from LA to Chicago' ... just need to find the proper motivation to get off my ass and do it. (maybe I just found it... )

Awesome!! Very inspirational, too!

23 years ago, I went on a bike trip in Scotland. The Lowlands. Their "Lowlands" looked more like the Catskills or Poconos here in the east. All of the B&B's we stayed at were nestled in little valleys. That meant that every morning, after stuffing my face with "bangers", I had to climb up a slope cold turkey (usually about thousand to two thousand feet). After the climb it was a breeze...fairly flat as you cruised passed 11th century abbeys, etc. Then downhill to the next B&B. But those morning climbs were brutal.

Good luck with your cycling and stay safe.

We had a blast. The place we stayed we had a bit of a climb to get out of then downhill to finish off uphill. Much nicer if we could have reversed that. Your Scotland story sounds lovely. :)
