Biden emboldens Longshoremen

I used to vote right. This year I registered as a Democrat
I'm an independent. I used to be first a Republican, then a Libertarian, then a Republican again, then a Democrat, and now an independent. I'm still voting for Harris, reservations about her to the contrary notwithstanding. Mostly because I think that while some of her backers/handlers are corrupt, his are also corrupt, but also dangerous zealots and he is a raving lunatic. At least the Democratic fringe doesn't have access to real power. The GOP fringe does.

Show some sympathy for Laz. He’s still coming to terms with Biden’s cognitive decline. He was in denial until the very end when Obama and Pelosi stepped in with a strong dose of reality.

🙄

Decent, intelligent individuals were perfectly aware of President Biden’s limitations, but they recognized all the positives he brought to the table. President Biden was also a moderate olive branch candidate to help unite Americans. (Kamala Harris is certainly a moderate candidate as well.)

👍

Meanwhile: BabyBoobs STILL isn’t “coming to terms” with DonOld’s far more troubling cognitive decline, moral failings, and criminal / traitorous behavior.

The union is not "corrupt" simply because you don't like unions.
According to Laz, the union is run by a “MAGAt” who only called for the strike to help get Trump elected. If that’s true, that would surely a corrupt action. But you don’t have to take his word or mine.

The Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor did an investigation and released a damning report in 2019-20. Among its conclusions:

“The absolute control of the International Longshoremen’s Association, AFL-CIO (ILA) over hiring in the Port for over 60 years has not only led to a lack of diversity and inclusion in waterfront employment, but also to the perpetuation of criminality and corruption.”

Oh puleeze! Your manta was “one bad debate.” You insisted he was fit for office. You were in total denial until the party leaders pushed him out. Sorry loser, but you’re an embarrassment to your party.

I thought you didn't approve of diversity?

President Biden was and IS fit for office.

President Biden didn’t manage his schedule appropriately before the debate and paid the price.

President Biden could have easily served a second term and delegated more responsibilities to members of his cabinet, etc, but Vice President Harris would have less of a need to do so.

President Biden recognized that Vice President Harris would be a more capable avatar for the Democratic Party to carry the torch going forward. President Biden also recognized the significant liabilities he carried with certain demographics of the electorate, and he made a electoral reality driven decision to step aside. And, yes, Nancy Pelosi, etc, showed President Biden the numbers that suggested he might lose, and that Vice President Harris would likely fare better.

Bottom line:

President Biden = Good.

Vice President Harris = Better.

DonOld = Worst.

How did 50K dockworkers strike at US ports with only 25K jobs?

Nearly 50,000 dockworkers launched a strike this week at ports from Maine to Texas — but, in a bizarre quirk that has resulted from massive concessions to the union over the decades, the affected ports only employ 25,000.

There’s a massive gulf in the numbers between those who show up for work and total membership in the powerful International Longshoremen’s Association, which won a deal late Thursday for a 62% wage increase over the next six years.

That’s because half of the dockworkers at the East and Gulf coast ports are allowed to sit at home collecting “container royalties” negotiated decades ago to protect against job losses that result from innovation, according to The Wall Street Journal.

It also alleged that nearly 600 union members received more than $147 million in outsized salaries not required by the industry’s collective bargaining agreement — and for hours they don’t have to work at the ports.
