Does anyone have any opinions about any of these birth control methods?

-Ortho Evra (the patch): I like what I read about it, but I am somehow unconvinced about it's ability to do what it says...a sticky patch? Yikes.

-Depo Provera: Was on this for years, and loved it, but have been reading more about bone density loss, and not liking that.

-IUD: Mirena or another type, have seen it has a very low pregnancy rate, and I like the long-term aspect of it.

I am hoping for "real life" testimonial. I am 32, have had my third and last child, and know myself to be exceedingly fertile. I was able to get pregnant within 1-3 cycles of trying all three pregnancies. I am not interested in surgery myself, and my dh may not be able to (or be willing to) schedule a vasectomy soon.

Have been on Microgynon, Cileste and some other pill...didn't like. I'm not allowed to take the combi pill as I reacted badly to it and had a serious increased risk of stroke (get told that at 16..scary), so got put on my third pill, the progesterone one. Hated the damn thing, kept missing the deadline. Have now been on Depo Provera for about 18 months and it's the best thing I've ever done, 4 jabs in the ass a year and no offspring...love it! Also no agony and extremely violent PMT that I get without any contraception at all.

Depo

I've been on Depo for about 4 years, following all the instructions to a "T" (i.e Calcium, Vitamin D, weight bearing exercise, except smoking, I still do that) and the past 3 times I"ve been to the clinic, I get the warning and am encouraged to try something else. The max. suggested usage is 2 years. My problem with that is I LOVE DEPO!!! So I went and had a bone density screening and they said I'm just fine for being 24. Take that you stinking clinic! And I'm reading more and more studies that say the "lost" density comes back after you stop taking it. I know that age has to factor into it and being 24 I have time to "regrow" my bone mass as I age. Just my experience

I would swear by the depo!!! I loved it! No worries of forgetting any pills, and it is only every 3 months!

I never tried the patch, but my niece loves it, accept in summer, she says it comes loose after being in the pool for a while.

Depo Provera almost killed me. Seriously. Last summer I was in the ER, and they were counting days, due to Toxic Shock Syndrome, caused by the Depo. I'm STILL reeling from what it's done to my body, and it's been about 17 months since my last shot.

I've been bleeding, almost steadily, for three months now.

We're working on fixing that, but after ruling out all the serious crap, they decided it was a hormonal imbalance, that was caused by the Depo, as I was fine, before I went on it. Basically, my uterus is confused, and needs MORE birth control to figure itself out.

Stay away from Depo.

Hi Curlygirly32!

I had the IUD put in after my last child. That was twelve years ago. I've had no problems with it. It's been very cost and birth control effective.

Right after it was put in, I did have a little bleeding. The first couple of periods I had more cramping than I had had with my previous method that I used before kids, the pill.

So if you are in a commited relationship, don't expect to want anymore kids and are not worried about STD's I'd say it's great!
