Birth Rate Solution

Your citizens aren't having babies. The only way your population has been increasing lately is from immigration.

Immigrants are a net positive for your country, from the Irish fleeing the Potato Famine to the Chinese building your railroads to the Jewish refugees from Hitler's Germany (imagine if Donald Trump had kept Einstein out of your country!) to the Latinos picking your crops, working on your building sites and in your meatpacking plants, to Satya Nadella . . .

Without immigrants your tax and hospital bills will go through the roof because you'll have no young workers to support the Social Security and medical treatments of your aging population.
All population growth causes problems.

The birth rate "solution"

The statement is based on the premise that there is a real problem, is there?

How the problem will manifest itself. The real casualty of the drop in the fertility rate is going to be seen in the Ponzi scheme benefit programs. They are ALL based on the notion that there will always be more taxpayers than beneficiaries. That's not going to happen with a falling fertility rate. And that is exactly why the democrats want to flood the country with uneducated, unskilled, and unhealthy immigrants that actually burden the system more than a financial solution. Further the overwhelming majority of those illegals are military aged men, how does that solve the fertility rate issue? (That was a rhetorical question, they solve no problem at all.)

We can import all the unskilled labor we need, fully vetted and culturally compatible, on an 'as needed' basis. And make no mistake my shallow thinking trolling monkeys, AI and automation is going to be a HUGE game changer. If it weren't for the government Ponzi schemes the fertility rate 'problem' wouldn't be any problem at all.

When Ishmael "turns up teh volume to 11" and delivers an unhinged screed like the word salad above, you know even he realizes that the Republican party is going to face a reckoning of Biblical proportions tomorrow.

The board monkeys seem to think that the an opinion by someone that DOES NOT drive public policy is important, it's not, not in the least. The statistics are meaningful but misleading. Fertility rate is driven by number of children per woman, NOT the age that the woman first became pregnant.

Replacement rate fertility is 2.1 children per woman period. To reiterate, age doesn't have a fucking thing to do with it.

But this entire thread is based on the opinion of someone who has no more influence on public policy than the chattering monkeys. Have a banana.

This thread about making fun of an imbecile (Marc Siegel) who was brought onto Fox News as an expert.

It’s weird that the thread makes you and a few other sheep so agitated that you keep bumping it.

Yes, you're obviously very smart and know women well. 👍

*sigh* Silly, silly monkeys. Chasing the shiny baubles while the semi-truck bears down on them at 80 mph.

There’s a reasonable point here: a falling ratio of workers to retirees puts pressure on retirement programs, and automation may help offset some labor shortages. But neither point establishes that low fertility would be inconsequential without those programs.

An aging population still needs healthcare, caregivers, and workers producing goods and services. Those needs don’t disappear if we change how retirement is funded. Calling the programs “Ponzi schemes” doesn’t answer how we meet them.

Immigration also doesn’t have to raise the birth rate to help address a workforce shortage. Your own proposal to admit workers “as needed” recognizes that distinction. We can debate admission standards and economic costs without assuming immigrants are uniformly burdensome or claiming to know an entire party’s motives.

The useful discussion is how to balance retirement financing, immigration, productivity, and support for people who want children. Insults and blanket claims don’t get us any closer to that answer.

Are you fearing Trump's claim that those 'of military age' men are here to overthrow the government at some point? Such fearmongering isn't helping your case.

A person of reason steps forth.

A truly useful step would be the privatization of SS although it may be already too late for that.

I've already acknowledged that immigration is part of the solution, legal immigration.

My point re. military aged men is that they aren't going to have babies going forward and exactly what do you think a population imbalance where men substantially out number women is going to lead to?

Health care is a whole different issue, complex and fraught with landmines. It's way beyond the scope of this thread.
